The Honda S600 is a car manufactured by Honda. It was launched in March 1964. Available as a roadster - has a strong resemblance to the Honda S500 - and as a fastback coupe - introduced in March 1965 - the S600 is the first Honda available in two trim levels. During the production period until 1966, the styling model will remain the same, with the most prominent changes coming to the front grille, bumper, and headlights.
Powered by DOHC, water-cooled, four-cylinder inline engine with four Keihin carburetors, engine capacity increased to 606 cc from S500 531 cc. The engine produces 57 hp (43 kW) at 8,500 rpm and has a top speed of 90 mph (140 km/h). With convertible weighing at just 1,576 pounds (715 kg), the extra sheet metal from the coupe only adds 33 pounds (15 kg) to the overall weight. The suspension is independent with a roller chain drive that is sealed onto each rear wheel.
S600 is Honda's first car mass marketed. First offered only on the right drive, soon became available on the left drive to attract export markets. There are some pre-production S500 produced in left hand drive, two or even three shown in some of the initial sales brochures.
Both the roadster and the S600 coupe are available in standard trims and special enhanced packages called SM600 which include, among other items, special paint colors, exclusive badges, standard radios and speakers, special antenna on the sunscreen passenger side, standard reversing lamps , standard cigarette lighter, standard heater, better overstuffed seat, and removable seat track to quickly remove passenger seats.
Honda built 3,912 roadster in 1964, with production rising to 7,261 convertibles and 1,519 coupes in 1965. Production declined in 1966 (when they switched to the S800) with only 111 roadster and 281 coupes, computed 11,284 convertibles and 1,800 coupes for range 3 years.
