The Honda Beat is a rear-wheel drive, twin-engine two-engined car manufactured from May 1991 to February 1996. The Beat was the last car approved by Soichiro Honda before he died in 1991 The total number of cars produced is about 33,600. Most production (about two-thirds) occurs in the first year, and then production and sales drop dramatically. The design of the car comes from Pininfarina, which then sells a design plan to Honda. Beat is one of many cars designed to take advantage of Japan's efficient Japanese taxi class.
There are two main models of Beat (PP1-100 and PP1-110) and some limited edition versions. Variations on the first model are just cosmetic updates. Only the second model has real mechanical differences. All cars are offered with driver side airbag options. The car was sold exclusively in Japan at Honda Primo dealer sales channel.
In typical Honda mode, the Beat engine does not use a turbocharger or supercharger. The 656 cc engine (40.0 cuÃ, in) has been modified with the MTREC (Multi Throttle Responsive Engine Control) system, with each throttle body for each of the three cylinders, to produce 64 PS (63 bhp) at 8100 rpm with electronically limited to a top speed of 135 km/h (84 mph). Only manual transmissions are available. The MTREC design will filter into Honda Kei cars in 1993 today.
The Beat was part of a sports car wave size of a kei car in the early 1990s; Competitors include Suzuki Cappuccino and Mazda Autozam AZ-1. Together they anticipate the arrival of Smart Roadster more than a decade later, while Japan will not see the new model of the genre until 2002 Daihatsu Copen.
On May 9, 2010, a parade was held at the Twin Ring Motegi circuit as part of the Beat owner's annual meeting. 569 Honda Beats participated in the parade, which was certified by Guinness World Records as the largest parade of Honda cars. The record was featured in Guinness World Records 2011 edition.

FWD Beat can be an obsolete rumor as MotorTrend reported in June 2010 that Honda filed a patent showing that the Beat's successor could be a mid-engine car.
