Group 1 Automotive, Inc. (NYSE: Ã, GPI) is an international Fortune 500 automotive retailer with automotive dealers and collision centers in the United States, United Kingdom and Brazil. Group 1 sells new and used cars and light trucks, arranges financial services, provides maintenance and repair services, and sells vehicle parts.
The company is led by former Ford Motor Company executives, CEO Earl J. Hesterberg and CFO John C. Rickel. The company executives are SVP Peter C. DeLongchamps, SVP Darryl M. Burman, SVP Frank Grese Jr., and US Operations President Daryl A. Kenningham

History
Group 1 was established as a public company in 1997 with B. B. Hollingsworth as Chairman and CEO. The founders of the founders were Bob Howard from Oklahoma City, Sterling McCall and Kevin Whalen from Houston, and Charles Smith of Beaumont.
The next acquisitions in the US include Gen Messer Automobile Group, Maxwell Auto Group, Iraq Motor Group, Bohn Auto Group, Pat Peck Auto Group, and Miller Automotive Group. 2018 The acquisition includes two dealerships in El Paso and on March 1, 2018,
In March 2018, Group 1 completed the acquisition of 5 Mercedes-Benz and 3 smart dealers from Robinsons Motor Group. It is based in Bury St Edmunds, Cambridge, Kings Lynn, Norwich, and Peterborough.
Group 1 acquired Brazilian automotive company UAB Motors Participacoes S.A in 2013, renaming entity as Group 1 of Brazil Automotive in 2015. Professional racer racer AndrÃÆ'à © Ribeiro and his dealer family are an important part of this acquisition.
In 2013, Group 1 became the third largest automotive retailer in the United States and by 2018 the company has 163 dealerships in 15 states in the United States, 18 in Brazil and 60 in the UK. Group 1 also operates 31 collision centers in the United States, Brazil and the United Kingdom.
In response to the 2010 Tax Discount and Employment Act, Group 1 issues a $ 500 bonus to non-management dealer staff. CEO Earl Hesterberg noted, "This is an unusual opportunity to support people who do the hard work without undue financial damage to the company."

Philanthropy
With individual dealers involved in local philanthropic efforts often independent of corporate offices, Group 1 supports the cause of the Houston area focusing on community outreach and elementary school education. Employees regularly make chocolate lunches to support Kids' Food and donate cargo van for their food on wheels delivery.
The Company is partnering with SEARCH Homeless Services and Junior Achievement of South East Texas for the event, classroom assistance and JA Company Program at the ISD Spring Branch. Starting in November 2017, Group 1 partnered with the Houston Independent School District to reward their Teacher of the Month recipients with a new vehicle to drive for a month.
Group Foundation 1
The Group 1 Foundation was originally created to support Hurricane Katrina affected employees, followed by Hurricane Rita. This tax-exempt charity provides all proceeds to help fellow employees in difficult times. Examples include supporting victims of fatal car accidents and home fires at employees.
The next natural disasters such as Tornado Moore 2013, Super Storm Sandy, and Hurricane Harvey also mark the need for Foundation Group 1 to assist their employees.
