Honda Civic Type R ( Japanese: ??????????? R , Honda Shibikku Taipu? ru ) is the highest performance version of Honda Civic made by Honda Motor Company of Japan. It features a lightweight and rigid body, a special engine tuned and enhanced brakes and chassis. Red is also used in interior badges to give special sporting differences and to separate it from other Honda models. In Japan, there is a Honda Type R one-make series where privateers can buy off-road Type R and compete in the series championship, which is a stepping stone for many aspiring riders.

generasi pertama (chassis EK9) (1997-2000)
The first Civic to receive the name 'Type R' is based on the 6th generation fan-base 'EK' Civic. The basic model that contributes is a 3-door JDM Civic hatchback called SiR, code named EK4. Like his older brother, Integra Type R DC2/JDM DB8, the transformation of the Civic SiR into Type R is achieved by working on the basic model and increasing it to Honda's idea of ââa car capable of producing high performance on the circuit.
The first Civic to receive the Type R badge was introduced in August 1997, as EK9. EK9 shares many characteristics with the DC2/JDM DB8 Integra Type R such as lethal shutdown and other weight-loss measures, B16B port-hand engine, limited-slip differential helical front and close ratio gearbox. The B16B engine boasts one of the highest power outputs per liter over time for a naturally-aspirated engine with 185 PS (136 kW; 182 hp) of 1.6L engine displacement. For the first time, a strategically welded monocoque chassis is used to improve chassis rigidity. The interior features red chairs, red door cards, red Type R flooring, titanium shift knobs, and Momo leather steering wheel.
In 1998, the Civic Type R Motor Sports edition was released. It comes with steel wheels, no air conditioning, no power windows, no power steering, no radio, and comes with a standard Type R interior.
Model Type Rx is equipped with CD player, mirrored electric door mirror body, power window, automatic air conditioning, keyless unlock system, aluminum sports pedals, and carbon type central panel.
In 2000, the company Honda Tuning Spoon Sports designed the N1 racing version of Type R that has a redline B16B increased from 8,400 rpm to 11,000 rpm.

Generation 2 (EP3 chassis) (2001-2005)
In 2001 Honda introduced the next generation Civic Type R as a unique 3-door hatchback to the UK market, which was produced in Swindon, England. The European Civic Type R Domestic Market features 200 PS (150 kW, 200 hp) 2.0L i-VTEC engine (K20A2) and typical Type R treatment of seam welding, near 6 speed transmission ratio and enhanced brakes, but excludes some features other high-end, such as LSD helices and red Recaro racing seats, which are standard on previous generation EK9. However, Honda Japan is marketing the JDM (Japanese domestic market) version of the EP3 (which is exclusively manufactured in Swindon, England and shipped to Japan), which retains the very famous LSD helix similar to EK9 and the red Recaro race-seating. Other differences include a more track-oriented chassis/undercarriage arrangement compared to EDM, as well as the 215-PS (158-kW; 212Ã, hp) i-VTEC (K20A) engine having fully balanced crankshaft assembly with different intake manifolds, exhaust manifold, high lift camshafts, high compression pistons, chrome-moly mad wheel and ECU programming. All Type-R Japan Type-K powertrains are built in Japan and shipped to the Swindon plant for installation in Japan's Spec-R EP3. EP3 JDM is also available in a traditional Type R white championship whereas EDM does not. EDM has a more relaxed gear ratio and some high torque rpm are traded for low rpm torque compared to JDM.
EDM EP3 Civic Type R has been widely recognized by automotive journalists across the UK, winning the 'Hot Hatch of the Year' award more than once from the Top Gear , Fifth Gear and < i> What Car? . Civic Type R is becoming a popular alternative to mainstream drivers that record large sales figures. This 2001 CTR release ( C ivic T ype R ), as it is also called, also indicates Honda's return to Formula One after nearly 10 years as a machine supplier for Jordan and BAR teams - this eventually led to a full comeback as a dedicated F1 work team in 2005 with Honda gaining full ownership of British American Racing.
2004 saw this successful CTR updated with many improvements - revised EPS with faster steering, revised suspension settings, projector headlights (JDM comes with halogens only when EDM comes with options for HID with self-leveling motors), the clutch lighter and flywheel assembly etc.; based on Honda literature, this facelifted (FL) model is targeted to handle customers 'and critics' feedback such as understeer at the limit (due to front MacPherson strut setup), numbing steering response and lack of low end torque.
The base price for Civic Type R (EP3) 2001 in the UK is £ 23,100 (about US $ 34,650).
Performance (all figures are manufacturer claims)
0-60 mph in 5.8/6.5 seconds (JDM/EDM pre-FL), 5.8/6.4 seconds (JDM/EDM FL) 0-100 mph in 15.1/16 sec (JDM/EDM FL) Highest speed of 141 mph (227 km)/h) and 146 mph (235 km/h) (JDM/EDM)
Mugen Motorsports makes an upgraded version of the JDM Civic Type R, it has a sport exhaust system and engine tuning, a special Mugen Grille, and an anti-roll bar for pro racing activities.
30th Anniversary Special Edition
In 2003 - 2004 facelift and pre-facelift Honda decided to celebrate 30 years of producing the Civic by offering a special edition 30th Anniversary Type-R. The special edition features the Type R red and black specialty sports chairs from world-renowned seat makers, Recaro, air-conditioning and privacy glass in the rear window. It also has a lighter fly-wheel and clutch. In addition JDM has a red bucket seat from Recaro, red carpet and door cards, steering MOMO leather, and also present in the famous white championship. The 30th Anniversary model is available at Nighthawk Black, Satin Silver and Milano Red and additional JDM comes in a white championship. Only 300 models are produced, 100 in each color.
Premier Edition
In 2005 Honda introduced the Premier edition which has a Recaro Trendline seat (similar to that found in the Anniversary Edition, only in red and black instead of all red), darker fabric colors on the back of the center seat, MOMO Steering Wheel, Red Carpet , Door Coatings, "Type R" is embedded into the front brake calipers and privacy glass in the rear window. Air conditioning is an option. They are available in Milano Red, Nighthawk Black, Cosmic Gray and Satin Silver.
Package C
In 2004 Honda introduced the "C Package" (Ã, à ¥ 330,000 JPY) option to the Japanese Civic Type R range including additional colors, Satin Silver Metallic, HID lamps, rear privacy glass, automatic air conditioning and outdoor temperature sensors.
Generation to -3 (Chassis FD2/FN2) (2006-2011)
The third generation Civic Type R is offered in two different forms: developed for the European market and one for the Japanese domestic market, which matches the availability of their 8th generation regular partners.
chassis FD2 (Asian version)
The Japanese Civic Type R (FD2) market went on sale on March 30, 2007. For the first time, the JDM Civic Type R was sold as a four-door sport sedan rather than a three-door hatch. Using the Japanese market is a four-door sedan as the basic model which means the new Type R is now bigger, wider and heavier. More importantly, the wheelbase has grown from 2,570 mm (101.2 inches) to 2,700 mm (106.3 inches), giving FD2R a more stable stance in high speed cornering. The output of the new Japanese model engine is higher than the European version, with 225 PS (165 kW; 222 hp) is being developed at 8000 RPM and 215Ã,Ã N? M (159Ã, lb? Ft) of torque peaked at 6100Ã, RPM (compared to 201Ã, PS (148 kW; 198 hp) at 7800 RPM and 193Ã, N? M (142 lb. Ft) at 5600 RPM for the European model). The base machine itself is borrowed from the Accord Euro R CL7 with a longer intake manifold. Changes have been made to the block in case the mounting points for additional sections make it different from the previous K20A. New technologies like throttle drive-by-wire and port intake ports using techniques from NSX are implemented. Honda said the mid-range increased by 10 PS (7 kW; 10 hp). Drives are inserted through a close-ratio six-ratio gearbox, and the limited slip differential helix is ââfitted as standard. The front brake discs increase from DC5R 300 mm (11.8 inches) to 320 mm (12.6 inches) equipped with four Brembo pot calipers. The tire size is now 225/40 R18 runs on Bridgestone Potenza RE070.
Honda claims the casing is 50% stiffer than the previous Japanese-only prefacelift DC5 Integra Type R and 25% stiffer than the previous DC5 Integra Type R facelift, and this new model has an independent rear suspension rather than torque beam configurations used on the European Civic Type-R the latest. To save weight, aluminum is widely used and bonded with adhesives, not welded. Although the chassis is larger and more rigid than the JDM Integra Type R, it is only 70 kg (154 lb) heavier.
Wise exterior, the front bumper is wider and different from the aerodynamically designed Civic standard. The rear bumper has a diffuser mounted on the bumper and completes the aero package with large rear wing. Inside, the trademark black and red bucket seats are no longer made by Recaro like the previous version, but are designed at home by Honda. Also missing is Momo making the steering wheel, instead of being replaced with a Honda-made version. A familiar red-on-black color scheme or black-on-black scheme is offered in Championship White and Super Platinum Metallic Silver while the scheme is black with red stitches only for Vivid Blue Pearl.
In October 2008, the Civic received a small face attack. Standard and hybrid versions now have the same front bumper with Type R while headlights get smoky colors and redesigned tail lights turn round insets into octagons. Type R also received new colors, with Premium White Pearl, Deep Violet Pearl Premium and Crystal Black Pearl added and Vivid Blue Pearl color dropped.
In back-to-back testing, the Civic Type R (FD2) averages 1 second faster than the Integra Type-R (DC5) in the Tsukuba Circuit and four seconds faster at the longer Suzuka Circuit.
In a back-to-back test on the UK TV program Fifth Gear, the FD2 Type-R is three seconds faster than the equivalent British FN2 version around Castle Combe Circuit in wet.
Only about 13,000 FD2 Civic Type R units were manufactured until production ceased in August 2010 due to failure to meet emissions requirements to come. Following the previous success after the introduction of the FN2 Civic Type R from Europe in 2009, another FN2 Type R batch with minor updates is available in the fall of 2010. FN2 Type R has 197 hp (147 kW) vs. 222 hp (166 kW) output in FD2 Type R.
Civic Mugen RR (Honda ABA-FD2)
In addition to the Civic Type R, 300 the Honda Civic Mugen RR car available exclusively at Milano Red has also been produced for the Japanese market, which reduces the weight to 1,255 kg (2,767 lb) using CFRP bumper and aluminum for hood. This machine has power 240 PS (180 kW, 240 hp) at 8000 RPM and torque 218Ã, N? M (161Ã, lb? Ft) at 7000 RPM achieved through Mugen parts such as camshafts, exhaust system and ECU. Other exclusive items that make this collector's item are the Recaro SP-X seats and other Mugen items inside while the special Mugen 7-spoke 18 inch wheel is equipped as standard. This version is worth 4,777,500 (4,550,000 taxes) (US $ 38,750) and went on sale in Japan on September 13, 2007.
Mugen also debuted the Civic Type-RR Experimental Spec concept car at Tokyo Auto Salon 2008, featuring a 2157 cc K20A engine that has 260 hp (190 kW, 260 hp) horsepower at 8250 RPM and 237 N torque? M (175Ã, lb? Ft) at 6750Ã, RPM. The weight is reduced using aluminum hood (4.6 kg (10 pounds)), as well as a new titanium disposal system (7.6 kg (17 Ib)). The interior is also updated with more parts of carbon fiber. This car also features Smart Condition Monitoring System (i-TCMS) and Recaro seats.
The Honda Civic Mugen RR Advanced Concept was first launched at Tokyo Auto Salon 2009, based on the FD2 facelift. It has a weight of 1,095 kg (2,414 à £). Disc brake size increased to 340 mm (13.4 in) diameter (320 mm (12.6 in) in Type R/RR).
Civic Mugen RC (2008 -)
A racing version called Honda Civic Mugen RC has also been produced, designed for the Civic One-Make Race-Civic Series 2008 Honda Exciting Cup. The engine is a K20A stock machine from the FD2 Honda Civic Type R. It comes with the following models:
- Basic: Ã, Ã 6,247,500 (5,950,000 taxes).
- Standard: Ã, Ã 7,192,500 (6,850,000 taxes). This adds to the wheel racing package (Mugen RC 18-inch wheels with Yokohama tires), brake package (front rear brake pads), seats and steering wheel (Recaro bucket bucket, seat rail, steering wheel with box, TAKATA harness), inner carbon option A (carbon fiber floor cover panel, footrest, door layer) above BASIC.
- Complete: Ã, Â¥ 7,822,500 (7,450,000 taxes). It adds optional parts inside carbon B (carbon fiber console box, left floor cover panel, center pillar cover), engine package (balancing and calibration machine)
The Civic Mugen RC was built at the M-TEC Mugen factory.
FN2 (European version) Chassis
The European Civic Type R market is only offered as a three-door hatchback and uses different internal chassis and layout (especially the placement of the tank under the driver's seat), which will serve as the basis for the next European Jazz. The rear suspension, previously a double wishbone arrangement, has been transformed into a less complex torsion beam. The drive train is mostly the same as the outgoing model, offering 201 PS (148 kW; 198 hp) at 7,800 rpm and 193? N? M (142Ã, lb? Ft) of torque at 5,600 rpm, with 90 percent peak torque available from 2,500 rpm. It runs on 225/40 R18 Y88 Bridgestone Potenza RE050A tires, while optional 19-inch Rage alloy runs on Yokohama Advan Sport tires 225/35 ZR19 88Y. This car has a curb weight of 1.320 kg (2910 pounds).
The suggested retail price (MSRP) for Civic Type R in 2007 was Ã,à £ 17,627, or approximately US $ 35,254 at the exchange rate when it was launched.
Version
Type R GT included, dual zone climate controller (Left: independent right), windshield wiper glass, cooled glove case, automatic headlight with twilight sensor, front fog lamps, power folding door mirrors, shipping controls, front and back. It's finished in the same three colors as the FN2 standard, and the new addition of a deep, sapphire blue pearl range. As often, names and trims vary even within the domain market down to local ones, and the Heritage version replaces the GT version in some of them, adding Xenon/HID lights into the mix. The top of the Heritage Navi version adds a Bluetooth phone system and voice recognition DVD satellite navigation. The more radical version dubbed Race differs from Heritage by removing components (including HID, AC, fog lights, audio systems, sound proofing, multiple airbags) to reduce weight by 40 kg (88 pounds). Finally, together with the 2009 revision for all 8th generation EDM Civic variants (adding eg a compatible iPod USB plug to the audio system), a special edition called Championship White comes in an eponymous Honda color, with 18 inch white wheels an optional white (19 "white). This edition adds an exclusive limited slip differential to the trim level of Heritage, which Honda praised at the Paris Motor Show for helping the car shave more than a second into an undisclosed Tsukuba lap time Model made from 1 March 2010 has LSD installed as standard.
Production for the European market was completed in October 2010 as the machine did not comply with the Euro V emission regulations that came into effect in 2011. More than 12,000 Civic Type Rs were sold in the UK since January 2007, Honda continued to export cars to the Australian market into 2011. It also exported to Japan and is marketed as a Civic Type-R EURO in a limited edition in the fall of 2010, after a successful run in November 2009. According to Autocar, Euro V emission requirements also led to the death of Alfa Romeo Brera with 3.2 L V6, Ford Focus ST, Mazda RX-8 and VW Group 5.0 L V10 turbodiesel.
Reception
Top Gear Magazine awarded the European Civic Type R 'Hot Hatch of 2007', praised the car's control and compared it well as a rider's car to its rival, Stig qualified as a 'spoken gem'. But Top Gear's television show then criticized the new FN2 Chassis version, due to different suspensions and adding weight. Jeremy Clarkson says that "it just does not feel that fast" and that "all the tranquility and control you normally get in old cars is just sort of... lost."
