The Honda Airwave is a subcompact car manufactured by Japanese car maker Honda from 2005 to 2010. It is a five-door version of station wagon from City/Fit Aria first generation and Fit/Jazz, which is a sedan and one hatchback. The Airwave is built on the Global Small Car platform; However, unlike City and Fit, Airwave is unique to the Japanese market. Honda announced its Airwave debut on April 7, 2005.

Production ended in August 2010. His successor, Honda Fit Shuttle, went on sale in June 2011.

Model

Airwave is sold in two slim lines, a basic "G" model, and a complete "L" model. Each trim line has an optional panoramic glass sunroof that covers most of the roof. Each version of the car is available in front-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.

It was also sold as a Honda Partner van (GJ3/GJ4 series) between March 10, 2006 and August 2010 in Japan. Basically a decompressed Airwave version, Partner uses a different 1.5L engine, the L15A I-DSi (unlike VTEC engine in Airwave), mated to a five-speed automatic transmission identical to that found in the North American market..

Interior

Airwave's interior flexibility is similar to its smaller brother, Fit. By moving the fuel tank beneath the front row of seats, the space on the back is freed for a flexible seating system. Like Fit, Airwave has five different seating modes.

Ultra Seat: The fuel tank and rear suspension layout also enable a multi-mode seating system, marketed by Honda as Ultra Seat (Asia) and Magic Seat (North America, Oceania), with four seating modes - and one fifth in a particular market:

  • Normal: seating in a normal position with seating for five.
  • Utility: Either the part (or both) of the split 60:40 back seats sink deep into the rear legs well when the rear back rear is lowered forward. It offers a perfect low flat surface that increases the cargo area substantially.
  • Length: The rear seats are folded down similar to utility mode, but the front passenger seat is folded backwards, leaving an area that can store 2.7 meters (8.9 feet) of stuff.
  • Height: One part (or both) of the rear seat cushion is folded to the back of the rear seat, allowing for a height of 1.25 meters (4.1Ã, ft).
  • Refresh: With the front seat back removed, front seat backrest can be folded down to form a lounge-style seating area.
