Robert Moses Causeway is a 8.10 mile (13.04 km) parkway in Suffolk County, New York, in the United States. Parkway, originally known as Captree Causeway, connects West Islip on Long Island to barrier beach islands such as Captree Island, Jones Beach Island and the western tip of Fire Island, to the south. This is specified New York State Route 908J ( NYÃ, 908J ), an unsigned reference route. Except south of NYA 27A, roads, like most parkways in New York State, are confined to non-commercial traffic.

Route description
The Robert Moses Causeway begins inside Robert Moses State Park, located on the western tip of Fire Island. From here, the highway leads north across Fire Island Inlet at Fire Island Inlet Bridge. On the north side of the driveway, the road changes from an undivided two-lane highway into a four-lane highway when entering Captree State Park and approaching a clover-clover interchange with the Ocean Parkway. The Parkway becomes a five-lane road divided by three northern trails and two southern trails around the intersection.
The Parkway then crosses the State Boat Channel Bridge through a 665-foot (203 m) bascule bridge modeled after the Mill Basin Drawbridge at Mill Basin, Brooklyn. The northern foot of the bridge contains countless junctions onto a private road on Captree Island, where the rest of the road is surrounded by protected lands. In the section that crosses Great South Bay, through the Great South Bay Bridge, the skyline of New York City can look faint on a clear day. Originally a toll bridge, the remains of the toll plaza for Great South Bay Bridge can be found on the north side of West Islip. At the clover crossing with NYA 27A, the third northern line becomes a deceleration lane, and from there the rest of the parkway is four wide lanes.
Parkway immediately takes a little northeast and then rises to move above Union Boulevard (County RouteÃ, 50 or CRÃ, 50), Montauk Branch from Long Island Rail Road, and Orinoco Drive without access to any of the roads. Instead, another clover exchange is available on NY 27. The road stays tall as it crosses Muncey Street, and then runs along the west side of Casamento Park, before approaching the northern end at the intersection with Southern State Parkway. The road to the north to the east to the South State and the Heckscher Country highway contains its own intersection with CRÃ, 57 (Bay Shore Road). Other ramps lie in the partial clover at the west of the Bay Shore Road intersection with Southern State.

History
The first trestle line that crossed from West Islip to Captree Island was completed in 1951. The structure is 3,206.2 meters (2.0 mi) in length with a median distance of 18.2 meters (59.7 ft). Initially, one lane for traffic to the south and the other for traffic to the north. In the opening ceremony of the bridge, the first car to drive over the bridge was a patrol vehicle of the Suffolk County Police Station. In 1967, a new range was built next to the original bridge, carrying three lanes of traffic to the north. The original bridge is reconfigured to bring traffic to the south...
The Fire Island Inlet span was completed in 1964. In 1985 double ranges were proposed to reduce traffic, but never built. When first proposed in 1938, the range was a vertical lift bridge with a design similar to the Marine Parkway-Gil Hodges Memorial Bridge. Later, the design of the Fire Island Bridge was changed to match the Great South Bay range, a 180-foot (180 m) steel arch with a distance of 60 feet (18 m).
