Forest Hill Station is a Muni Metro station near Forest Hill and Honda Laguna in San Francisco, California. Originally built as part of the Peak Twin Tunnel in 1916-1918, it is the oldest subway station in western Chicago. The station was originally called Laguna Honda ; letters with the previous name carved in the station head.

Scenes from the movies Dirty Harry (1971) and Milk (2008) are taken inside this station.

The station was temporarily closed during the closing of the Twin Peaks Tunnel until August 2018.

Station layout and architecture

Forest Hill Station is built in a "restained classical revival" style that remains largely unchanged to date. There are also some decorative features that show the Art Nouveau aesthetic, for example a malachite colored accent placed above the elevator door.

This station consists of two sides of the platform next to a track deep beneath the surface. Forest Hill Station is deeper underground than other Muni Metro stations; so much so that, unlike other stations, most people use elevators to reach the platforms at Forest Hill. Unlike other underground Muni Metro stations, there is no mezzanine concourse level in the basement just above the platform level. Instead, the concourse level is in the station building on the surface.

Forest Hill and Eureka Valley stations were originally built on low platforms, as the carriages of that era had a move to load passengers off the road. However, six new Market Street Subway stations, as well as Western Portal stations, are built with high-level platforms for faster boarding rates to the new Boeing LRV. With the Eureka Valley station permanently closed, Forest Hill was abandoned as the only low-platform station on the subway of Muni Metro. Muni immediately modified the station with a high-level platform, elevator for disabled access, and increased ventilation. The $ 6 million project, which enhances Forest Hill to match new stations while maintaining its historic architecture, was completed in 1985.
