Additional potential: Flights

I will start by stating that I am not a representative of WP: Aviation, and thus my feedback is not from the whole project but from my own personal views. I see an announcement by your chosen bot asking for feedback, and after reviewing the list of planes, there are some selection items you may want to add to Version 0.8 in this subject. I believe it will be explicitly important to include a plane from a famous and unique realm: the chosen Concorde becomes the most obvious example that comes to mind. Two articles show promise in my opinion, Harrier Jump-jet British Aerospace (The famous 'Harrier jump-jet' in its most famous form, one of the very few mainstream V/STOL jet and most successful) and Bell-Boeing V - 22 Osprey (first main tilt-rotor plane, crossed the line between helicopter and plane). Including this unique aircraft can help expand the horizons of possibilities for those interested in the field but with the limited resources available, they are high quality articles and GA classes as current revisions. I think they deserve to be included. Kyteto (talk) 13:54, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

On a slightly different note, I find it strange that Gloster Gloster is included, but Hawker Hurricane is not; the latter is a much more common and useful WW2 aircraft (although overshadowed by Supermarine Spitfire, it is much more effective in the Battle of Britain and less fussy at railing work, and more widely used in the Empire than with the Home Front). Since I'm not sure why it was not included, it may have been discounted for valid reasons. Kyteto (talk) 14:01, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

For consideration: - BOAC Flight 712 (GA) and Jane Harrison (GC) (Start). The accident caused the only George Cross given directly to a woman in peacetime. Mjroots (talk) 10:15, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Actually, Osprey and Hurricane are included (the last score is very high), like Harrier Hawker Siddeley. You have so many great flight articles (almost 1000 selected for V0.8), you need to change the defaults to 500 to see them. However, it seems to be a minor bug in coding bots that missed the British Aerospace Sea Harrier - I think it was given a low score because it was recently renamed, and under the new name it was close to zero page views. Based on clicks in the last few days, this is a definite "Include". Thanks for catching it! As for Gladiator, my late father might disagree - he was in a convoy during the Malta siege (WWII), and Gladiator was the only thing between him and Stukas! We can also include Gladiator, fortunately.
Regarding BOAC Flight 712 and Jane Harrison (GC), he's definitely a brave woman and it's definitely a tragedy, but this just is not worth including. I will check for more statistics - there may be a problem moving pages here like Harrier, which can cause the number of clicks to be less - but in front of him, the score is well below our threshold (BOAC Flight 712 776 score, the threshold is 1240 from at least one project ). Walkerma (talk) 21:11, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
I do not know the scoring system, and will hand it over to those involved with this project. As I said, the article is suggested for consideration. Jane Harrison's page was moved recently, and I believe that my suggestion will be evaluated correctly. If the article is not selected after consideration, then I am happy with it. Mjroots2 (talk) 05:29, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
I checked the statistics further, and it looks like BOAC Flight 712 and Jane Harrison (GC) both fall well below the threshold. For both articles, there are no versions in other languages, and there are only a few readers per day, so it's hard to make the case that they are more important than, say, Air France Flight 358 (300 hits per day, 14 other languages), which may have to replaced. Thanks for your feedback! Walkerma (talk) 03:10, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
OK, I've added British Aerospace Sea Harrier manually, but left the 712 and Harrison flight articles. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:22, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Immaculate Conception

I have marked this article Immaculate Conception for cleaning and quoting but the editor has removed the tags without substantial improvement. Content is taken into account with WP: OR and needs a bit of cleaning. Bawang Putih 2010 (talk) 23:03, September 19, 2010 (UTC)

The Henrik site states: "This article rated 2217 in traffic on en.wikipedia.org". Given that his goal as a "scientific" subject (vs. pop culture or sex-related) means it's an article we'd love to have . Is it possible for WikiProject Christianity (or subprojects) to try and resolve this issue as soon as possible, so that we can have the NPOV version for 0.8? Otherwise it will look like we have a gaping hole in our scope in this area. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 21:17, 22 September 2010 (UTC)
The problem is with the editor there that loads the page with original research. He then uses Google's book as a quote but they do not support the claim. His article is messy and full of errors. The editor there will not allow any changes made. He has removed the tag I placed. This page needs to be locked and edited without him.Malke 2010 (talk) 02:27, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Can you suggest an old revision - even a year ago if you like - from before this controversy began? Walkerma (talk) 02:35, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, I will look for it now, but the thing is, this dominating editor, the obsessive edits and the older pages may be missing now. But I will see now.Malke 2010 (talk) 02:42, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
No, sorry to say no version is currently accessible by going to the earliest history. It's loaded with fake faults and sources. Full rewriting is required. I will do it but this editor turns every page into a battlefield. It may take a few days for a complete rewrite using a reliable source. Is there a way to lock the page so it can be completed? Malke 2010 (talk) 02:51, 27 September 2010 (UTC)
I'm not an admin, but I think you need to get some other people from WP: Christian and WP: Catholicism to support your proposal - and better to help write as well. History2007 has edited this article actively since the beginning of 2008, so I think you need to create a very powerful case, otherwise he can argue "There is a newer editor for the page trying to dump big and well-established garbage. Part of the referenced article well, just to encourage his POV. "BTW, older versions of articles are not" lost "- you can go back to 2001; maybe that version is not controversial ?! Please tell us how you got it. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:44, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

------------------------------------ - ------------------------------------------------- - ------------- I can leave a message in WikiProject Catholicism. I am a member of that Project. How can I go back and see all the versions? Also, just because History2007 has edited it obsessively does not mean he has done a good job. He is an aggressive editor who pushes other editors away. I can show you the diff of some pages, all with the arguments of the uncivilized and the straw. Please tell me how I can go through all history. Thanks.Malke 2010 (talk) 05:25, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

I see how to do it now, thanks. I will check all versions and tell you which one is best. I will give you some reliable sources that can be used if the editor on your project wants to fix it.Being 2010 (talk) 05:31, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Christian articles

In my opinion, articles that score too high are:

  • Jehovah's Witnesses: This is not part of the main theme of Christianity of any size. Too high in the list. I'll even exclude it to support another article. Protestant, Lutheran, Catholic, etc. More representative.
  • Jesus in Christianity is fine, but it is not necessary for Jesus either.
  • The resurrection of Jesus is fine, but the Resurrection itself is not just Christian.
  • The list of Archbishops of Canterbury is really of distant topics and interests when Safety is not at the top.
  • Christian metal? Since when? Neither John Calvin nor the Pope disliked him.
  • The Gospel of Mary? Excuse me? This document is hardly accepted by ANYONE. I am amazed here!
  • C. S. Lewis? Again, forgive me but this is way, far.
  • The Unification Church is an unclear branch.
All this is marked by WP: Christian - this does not mean that they are Christians, only that they are relevant to the project - just like Piltdown_Man is marked by WP: Archeology). Also, many of these comments relate to your perspective; Christian Metals is GA which gets about a quarter of a million clicks in a year, with 14 other language versions. We're going crazy to get rid of it. I will admit that Christian hardcore may be a more important topic for younger Christians I know, but the article is in bad shape. As for ranking - Safety is marked by WikiProject as Top-important and scores 1452, while Archbishops List is rated as High-importance and the score is 1307, so I am confused with that comment. I would consider the article to be important to the Anglican, so I do not understand why it does not fit into the topic. I am inclined to agree that the Gospel of Mary should be removed for no reason - why is it valued by WikiProject as a high interest? Does someone think for k? Walkerma (talk) 06:30, 27 September 2010 (UTC)

Lost Krypt on Christianity: (Comment and status correction added in brackets by Walkerma)

  • The miracle of Jesus (already selected)
  • The Jesus Parable (not selected, rated as Begin but may look C-Class to me)
  • Crucifixion of Jesus (already selected)
  • Mary (Jesus' mother) (already selected)
  • Mariology (not selected - but we have Roman Catholic Mariology and even Roman Catholic Mariology History, both of which appear to be much more powerful articles than "parent" articles.
  • Sacred Heart of Jesus (already selected)
  • Increment of Jesus (already selected)
  • Trinity (selected)
  • Four Signs of the Church (Unselected - quite important, but it looks like a weak article If it is improved it will happen)
  • Eucharist (already selected)
  • Christian Meditation (GA, but gets too low)

[1]. It is very well written and with a reliable source. I will shorten a bit, delete a little mission, but if not, the article is read very well. It can stand some pictures that I can recommend. If you want to include Immaculate Conception, I'm working on a rewrite complete with another editor. Thank you. 20: 28, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Hong Kong Scout Association, FA
  • South African Scout Association, GA
  • Scouting and Coaching in Germany, B
  • The Australian Scout, B
  • Japanese Scout Association, B
  • Olave Baden-Powell, founder of Girl Guides/Scouts C

Remove:

  • Hans-Rudolf Merz, stub and low interest
Please post in my conversation if you have any questions, or from Users: Gadget850, tks. - R levse o Talk o 00:06, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Review comments: Many of them have fairly low ratings, but appear to reflect the consensus of WikiProject; I appreciate the goal of getting a more global perspective.

  • Coker is too low in general - only 28 page views per day is very low, and zero articles in other languages. NOT ADDED.
  • Hillcourt also got a fairly low score, but was significantly higher than Coker. PLUS.
  • Articles of Hong Kong, Australia, South Africa and Japan have been added, but the Germans are weaker and have low external interest.
  • Olave must be all right.
  • I agree with you about Merz, who appears to have made it through only because of a recent viral video, but I have to get a view of the Swiss WikiProject, whose articles are ranked High is important. It's rated as C-Class now. thanks. Walkerma (talk) 00:47, 5 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia: WikiProject Riverina - List of articles

After reviewing the list of articles provided here for Wikipedia: WikiProject Riverina, I highly recommend adding an article in Wagga Wagga . It is the largest city in the Riverina region, larger than Albury, New South Wales and Griffith, New South Wales that have entered. This is also the "GA-class" standard, while Griffith and Albury are just "B-class" articles. Wagga Wagga is historically more important than Albury and Griffith and is clearly more economically significant than Griffith.

Besides Wagga Wagga, I do not see any outstanding omissions. I consider that the list is a sensible choice and everything is worth entering. However, if an article should be removed from the list to see Wagga Wagga included, I would recommend to remove Griffith, New South Wales. Please let me know if you need more information. - Mattinbgn (talk) 00:10, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

That's right! Even I (Pom) know that Wagga Wagga is worth to be included. I think this omission was caused by the recent page steps - statistics compiled based on the name of the new article, which naturally has very few hits under the name that has not been created - we have the same problem in WP: Flights with articles British Aerospace Sea Harrier . Thanks for catching this! Walkerma (talk) 21:44, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

Military fiction articles

I'm not sure if I agree with the list in the article list. First choice Horatio Hornblower. Although he may be more popular as a page, the Aubrey-Maturin Patrick O'Brian series is largely regarded as a better representation of a historical novel by naval historians and literary critics, when they become familiar with it, soon putting greater praise on Book -that book. Also, I think the quality of the Aubrey-Maturin series article is much better than the Horatio Hornblower article, with a much less list of trivia and more real-world information with a scientific background.

Also, A Farewell to Arms is not in great shape. The article requires serious and definite improvement to be made. Catch-22, Slaughterhouse-Five and Gone with the Wind have some serious OR problems, though, at first glance, they seem to be good in standard literary practice for original research.

Which I think should be liberated:

  • Aubrey-Maturin Series
  • All Calm in the West
  • Little Woman

Articles that may require some work before release:

  • Capture-22
  • Slaughterhouse-Five
  • Go with the Wind

Definitive articles should not be released in their country right now:

  • Horatio Hornblower
  • A Farewell to Arms

Sadads (talk) 00:14, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

OK, thanks for the feedback that helped you - I checked this out. I love replacing the Hornblower with the Aubrey-Maturin series; the first may be chosen because there is no interest rating of WikiProject, so it is based on other things like page hits only. Meanwhile, Aubrey-Maturin score is quite high. The only question I have is about Catch-22, which is the article with your highest score; if it really deserves a B-Class assessment, then it should be included; I will wait for your follow-up comments. If some assessment (quality or importance) is wrong, then can you update it? We may do another release in just a few months. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 16:16, 23 September 2010 (UTC)

  • Est and Forums in popular culture
  • Jayne Mansfield in popular culture
  • Thirty pieces of silver

- ErgoSum o talk o trib 00 : 46, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Many of these seem to have a very low importance - their value is low on all external interest metrics. The only thing that comes close is the spider, even though it's way below the threshold. We not only include all GA & amp; FAs - those articles should also be topics. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 00:39, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Better version of Greenwich Mean Time

I request you to use this version of Greenwich Mean Time because one of the two conflicting claims is removed in a newer version, and other claims are softened. In short, the 1978 Interpretation Act that determines the legal meaning of certain words in the United Kingdom states that "whenever the expression of time takes place in a law, the time should be, unless specifically stated, regarded as Greenwich means time." Nobody knows if this is the same as Coordinated Universal Time. If leap seconds are removed, as currently proposed, the difference between UTC and the actual average time in Greenwich will gradually become more and more visible to the "man on the street". Considering the controversy surrounding the second leap application, the article should not make any statement about the meaning of GMT.

The softened claim is "This is practically the same as Coordinated Universal Time (UTC)" with a change from the underlined V V 0.8 version. Also, the claim that Greenwich's time is legal time in the UK has been removed. This is appropriate if the British authorities finally decide that UTC is what is actually referred to in the Interpretation Act.

To confirm there is some uncertainty, see "The Debate over UTC and Leap Seconds" paper by David Finkleman, John H. Seago & amp; P. Kenneth Seidelmann, presented at AIAA Guidance, Navigation, and Conferences Conference, 2 - 5 August 2010, Toronto, Ontario Canada. The paper states in section F2 "In other countries where UTC is the explicit legal basis, there may be political obstacles or questions about UTC changes. The title 'Universal Coordinated Time' states the requirement to track the rotation of the Earth: countries that adopt UTC broadcasts as their statutory or regulatory standards understand UTC as the realization of Universal Time in the title and purpose of official adoption, and the obligation to follow the Earth's rotation has never been revoked. "Jc3s5h (talk) 00:49, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject New Zealand

Hi all - first fast thanks for doing this task, and comment that the whole NZ list looks good. There are some articles that seem to stare at ads, though:

  • Phil Goff - Current Opposition Leader (Priority: High: Class: Start)
  • Kowhai - National Flower of New Zealand (Priority: Mid: Class: Start)
  • Central Otago Gold Rush - the origin of much prosperity and an increase in the initial population of the country (Priority: High: Class: B)

I also think it's a bit strange that the three regions of the country have made a list of articles (Waikato, Manawatu-Wanganui, and West Coast), while others do not. This may be a problem with the assessment by WPNZ, however - for my untrained eyes, articles in the Canterbury Region and Otago Region (both classified as "Begin") look better than those in the West Coast Region (categorized as "B" ").

I realize everyoine of any WikiProject will have suggestions on what can and can not get into v0.8, but I recommend trimming down three Territories and just saving the New Zealand Region article, and adding the other three I named. Grutness... wha? 01:25, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Many other WPs: NZ editors have made comments and suggestions on Wikipedia talking: New Zealand WikiProject, most of it sounds like a reasonable change. Grutness... wha? 23:30, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
OK, this is a very helpful discussion - exactly what we were looking for. I will reply in more detail on WikiProject when I get a chance, including on articles like M? Ori Party. Currently the tools are slow, so I'll try later. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 19:48, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
BEGIN text is copied from the WikiProject page, with my comment (Walkerma) added in

Include:

  • Religion in New Zealand
I want to include this, but not until the cleanup tag is removed, and it reaches at least C-Class. Walkerma (talk) 03:00, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Exclude:

  • Catlins
  • Auckland Grammar School
  • New Zealand at the 2008 Summer Olympics - note: I have reassessed this from high to low importance
  • New Zealand Elections, 2008
  • Islam in New Zealand

Adabow (talk Ã, Â · contribs) 00:34, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

OK, it will be done.
I also recommend the following:
Include:
  • New Zealand OK First
  • New Zealand's foreign relations
  • Geography of New Zealand
  • List of cities in New Zealand
  • Tourism in New Zealand
  • New Zealand Biodiversity
  • Agriculture in New Zealand
  • New Zealand wine
  • New Zealand geology
  • List of earthquakes in New Zealand
  • Volcanism in New Zealand (but I am biased;)
  • Canterbury Earthquake 2010 (idul)
Exclude:
  • St Peter College, Auckland
  • New Zealand Recording Industry Association
Zeeland and Trieste are not so important to our subject, but I imagine they deserve to be included for other reasons. --Avenue (talk) 03:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
I now see Wikipedia: Release_Version_Nominations # Everyday_Life here that New Zealand wine has been rejected because it is not important enough. --Avenue (talk) 04:08, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
OK, I added all except articles about wine, Geology, List of earthquakes, Volcanism (but I added the Canterbury). Some of them I omitted are good articles, and I wish I could include them, but the external interest rating is too low.

I have answered on the talk page v0.8, but I will also bite here.

including:
  • Phil Goff (957 points)
  • Central Otago Gold Rush (782 pts)
  • Kowhai (our national interest) (812 points)
  • maybe Clutha River (1067 points)
does not include:
  • Three regional articles. There is no point in having an article about the West Coast Region, Manawatu-Wanganui Region and Waikato Region if you will not include others.

I would also be tempted to add the New Zealand Nuclear Free Zone, Disarmament and Arms Control Act 1987 (which is surprising, only 518 points). In addition, I strongly agree with Avenue and Adabow's comments above. Grutness... wha? 4:28, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

One unique thing is Kiwi M? Ori selector. The article is not very comprehensive. I just wrote the first election M? Ori, who goes deeper into the historical context of the matter. It's fairly new and I do not know where the scores displayed in the server-listings come from. Both have a relatively low score of 225, so far below the cutoff for the selected article (& gt; 1050). Ok, I may be biased, but one of those articles should be added. Schwede 66 06:09, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Scores are based on the class, importance, and how long the article has had an assessment (I think). Therefore, a relatively new article will probably have a very low score.
M? ori Party may be more useful as an article v0.8... Grutness... what? 09:27, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
I agree, but then do we need the New Zealand beach controversy and the seabed? Adabow (talk Ã, Â · contribs) 04:30, 21 September 2010 (UTC)
OK, I added Goff and Clutha River, but it does not include Kowhai and Gold Rush articles as being too low. I will remove the areas as requested, and add M? Ori Party, but not beachside controversy. Walkerma (talk) 03:00, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Indigenous peoples of Australia - my suggestion

Suggest you add:

  • Neville Bonner (not tagged by the project - this is now fixed) - The first indigenous parliament elected, a member of the Constitutional Convention, the recipient of the Order of Australia etc. The quality of the content looks good, the refs are not so good.
  • Albert Namatjira (not tagged by the project - this is now fixed) - along with Bonner, probably the only Indigenous Australians who became household names before the 1980s. The quality of the content looks good, the ref is not that good.
  • If a row of citation tags can be resolved, Cathy Freeman will suggest (not tagged by the project - this is now fixed).
  • Australian Indigenous Contemporary Art - I have little COI as the main creator and editor of this article, but this art is widely cited as "the last major art movement of the 20th century" and is of great cultural importance to Australia in general, not to mention for Indigenous Australians.

White there are some quality issues with some other articles, I think they are a good list in terms of interests. hamiltonstone (talk) 01:40, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

I noticed that all of these articles - in addition to your art articles - are very weak on reference. Bonner's articles can be included if the article is much stronger, but its judgment on other parameters is also low. Namatjira is better, so I think we can include that also art article. Freeman is selected automatically. Thank you very much, Walkerma (talk) 04:57, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia: WikiProject Gilbert and Sullivan suggestions

I review this list. I would advise to remove Charles Mackerras, which is not a very good article and also not an important article for our project. Instead, I will add D'Oyly Carte Opera Company, Trial by Jury and The Pirates of Penzance . You may also want to include George Grossmith. Looking at other projects, I see that you pretty much include all the FA and GA articles. You may want to include all our FA and GA articles? Regards, - Ssilvers (talk) 01:41, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

All added as suggested, including Grossmith. I do not dare to remove Mackerras - he was not selected for the G & amp; S, but for one or more other projects, which he ranked higher. BTW, we give higher scores for FA and GAs, but there are many who have been excluded, even after further review - they should be on important topics to include. Thank you very much, Walkerma (talk) 04:12, 8 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia: WikiProject Fishes

I've browsed the title (do not see the article to check its quality), but seeing how my choice to use software is to let children browse comfortably that they are not online, I would expect to find both a well-known array of fish as well as some outside usually less well known.

Angelfish - Very famous.

Bass - Anyone who goes fishing will appreciate this one.

Chinese algae eaters - Popular in an aquarium, this is a strange fish that sticks to the side of the tank with its mouth, keeping the stone and glass clean.

Clownfish - A very famous fish, a favorite among children. I was surprised it was not on the list.

Manta Ray - A giant object that barely looks like a fish, and can jump out of the water for a look around. Children also like this one.

Oarfish - The longest fish there, and it's also pretty cool.

Psychedelic Frogfish - Not very famous, but a very famous fish because it is very strange. Children love to read about fish that can expand and deflect their faces, swim like bouncing beach spheres or by using jet propulsion, mingle with camouflage striped pajamas, and crawl into small holes with fins like arms.

Sawfish - Seriously, what kid does not like sharks with a giant jagged knife in his snout?

Since Northern Pike is already included, I'm not sure Esox is needed, but that's just me.

And that's my two cents. Bob the Wikipedian (talk o contribs) 01:47, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

I suspect you mean Pterophyllum, because Angelfish is a disambiged page. We can include it - it's large enough for Start-Class. Walkerma (talk) 05:27, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I think we can add all this; all but frogfish get important rankings. The Bass (fish) that really is the page disambig, but we certainly need a basic entry on the bass. I'll add it tomorrow. Walkerma (talk) 06:17, 8 October 2010 (UTC)
I am not a fisherman, but I think the Largemouth bass is a classic favorite. Thank you for your hard work in reviewing all these candidates, not just in WP Fishes, but across Wikipedia! Bob the Wikipedian (talk o contribs) 19:58, 9 October 2010 (UTC)
Thanks - after a bit of cleaning, I added a largemouth bass article to represent the bass. Article sawfish paralyzed by some old vandalism - now restored; You may want to watch that one. Thanks for your feedback. Walkerma (talk) 04:55, 15 October 2010 (UTC)
Added it to my watchlist. Think smart! So long, and thanks for all the fish! Bob the Wikipedian (talk o contribs) 07:39, October 15, 2010 (UTC)

Musical Project

The musical project does not cover music films, so one of them is not tagged correctly. Why are you entering class C and early class articles? I will not include it? - Ssilvers (talk) 01:50, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for mentioning this; unfortunately, there is little we can do, though that will not affect the overall choice. At some point, someone has to re-tag for WP: Films (do they have a musical task force?) It looks like a job for movie fans with AutoWikiBrowser.
We do selection process selection bias against better quality articles. However, we made a policy decision in 2006 to include lower quality articles if they were a significant topic; otherwise we will do our initial release with some countries in the world removed. The situation today is no different, although the collection is much larger; the collection should not be just the articles of the FA/GA/A/B class - we will end up with articles about South American reptiles that are not clear but we will ignore the articles that people really want and need, like physical chemistry or Phil Goff. The latter is one of the many that WikiProjects proposes on this page - see #WikiProject_New_Zealand just above.

Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:02, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikiproject Botswana

I think you should use the new version of Gaborone page. Information on old revisions is outdated, and newer ones have more references and correct information. ethansmith | talk to me. 01:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Thank you - I propose to use this version. Please let me know if there is a problem with it. Cheers, Walkerma (talk) 03:12, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Saga

Suggest you use this version, where I have returned some vandalism. hamiltonstone (talk) 02:09, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Right! It's definitely one to show to the WikiTrust guys - it'll be useful to discover how it's escaped! Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:15, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikiproject baseball

Every article in the Baseball Categories, 50 that we select should be on the list. Together with our FA and GAs. Secret Account 02:33, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Can you tell me which one to add or remove? As you can see from this page, I have many things to check! Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 12:12, October 17, 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Australia

A newer version of Kevin Rudd's article should be used, because if I read the list correctly, the selected version of the article shows that he is still the Prime Minister of Australia, which is not really happening now. Perhaps the latest version of Julia Gillard should be added as well, because the situation has changed dramatically since she became Prime Minister on June 24th. Graham 87 03:17, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Many thanks! You just showed the value of a human check - the bot checks for the most reliable version, and does not know about current events. I have updated Kevin Rudd to RevID 389983974, and Gillard to RevID 390821154. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 05:04, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia: WikiProject Dinosaurs

I propose a Dinosaur List removed from selection because it claims to be a complete list but somewhat controversial and never really up-to-date.

Instead, I nominated Gideon Mantell, the first paleontologist to work with dinosaurs (with the exception of his wife, who unfortunately has no articles at all on Wikipedia?!?). Bob the Wikipedian (talk o contribs) 03:45, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia: Wikiproject Mills

May I suggest some individual factory articles to be considered for inclusion?

  • Thelnetham Windmill (GA), a great example of a small tower grinder.
  • Union Mill, Cranbrook (B), the highest smock factory in the UK.
  • Ringle Crouch Green Mill, Sandhurst (Start), multi-sailing windmill.
  • Clayton Windmills (C), including post and windmills.
  • De Schoolmeester, Westzaan (C), the only wind-powered paper mill in the world.
  • Riser-soldermolen, Easterein (not notified), example from a drainage plant
  • Barry Mill (B), an article on an individual watermill.

Thank you for your time. Mjroots (talk) 04:28, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

There appears to be a total shortage of modern textile mills (post 1850) {{Lancashire Cotton}} {{Lancashire Cotton Corporation}} refer. As the driving force of the industrial revolution and the economic development of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries: this omission seems strange.

  • Minerva Mill, Ashton-under-Lyne (Start) can be a starting point.

--ClemRutter (talk) 08:38, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. Unfortunately, most of these articles get very few clicks/day, and very few foreign language versions as well, so the score is very low. I checked some of the list articles mentioned in the template, and this is also usually less than ten hits per day; the norm for articles in this election is several hundred/day. I think we can include the Thelnetham Windmill, which can provide a good example of the factory and showcase the work of this project. Thanks again, Walkerma (talk) 05:30, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Color

For the most part I think the selected selection is fine (although unfortunately many of these very important articles are pretty bad), but I have some comments on the list:

  • I do not recommend including gold (color) as there may already be articles about metal gold, and color articles add little value.
  • I am skeptical about the Color list (the list is not researched and in many ways considered bad), and the color of the Web (not sure how relevant it is for the intended audience).
  • If Cyan is worth including, Magenta may also (although both articles are bad). Personally, I think the CMYK article might be enough (& it's redirect it there) if we try to keep the article counts low.
  • In its present form, black and white seems useless.
  • Articles that may have to be included for their purposes (though they can be improved a bit): Munsell color system, Opponent process (this may be adequately covered by the included Color vision), Color space, Color terms, Color printing, photography Color, Color, Light (color), Colors (one day we have to make the Color article attribute as an umbrella for these last three terms).

Cheers, jacobolus (t) 04:36, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

OK, I delete the following, as suggested above:
  • gold (color), Color list, Web color, Cyan, black and white
I added the following, as suggested:
  • Munsell color system, Color space, Color terms, Color photography, Color, Light (color), Colors
I am proposing to exit:
  • The opposite process = just a Start, and too low on an external interest score (for example, only one other language has articles), and is covered in Color Vision articles.
  • Color printing = C only, and scores are low on external interest scores; if it's upgraded to B, I'll include it.
Many thanks! (More work later...) Walkerma (talk) 12:50, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
Now done . This is a great suggestion, thank you! Walkerma (talk) 02:20, October 19, 2010 (UTC)

I would suggest using the following Red, Yellow, Green, and Blue versions as we at Color Project have just added these color definitions in four main color systems - RGB, CMYK, NCS, and Munsell, thus containing more color information:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Red&oldid=392739331

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Yellow&oldid=392738567

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Green&oldid=392737716

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Blue&oldid=392736709

I would suggest using the following Purple version because it now includes the Munsell purple color that is important to include because Munsell is one of the main color systems:

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Purple&oldid=392702297

I think that Cyan and Magenta should be clearly incorporated because it is important to include all of the three main colors used in printing - yellow, cyan and magenta.

I also think that web color and color list, as well as Gold (color) must be SURE inserted. Many people use the color of the web and everyone has a strong interest in the color list. The list of color articles earns an average of about 7,500 views per day, which is a huge amount for Wikipedia articles.

http://stats.grok.se/en/201010/List_of_colors

The article about the color of gold has a lot of interesting information about the color of gold in the "golden part in human culture".

Jacobolus wrote most of the contents of the article on color theory and since 2006 I have written most of the article content about the color itself. Most of us both edit and add most of the content to color articles. Another person named Pale Aqua created a template used to display colors; he is a highly skilled computer programmer from the UK. Another person named VMS Mosaic does a lot of work patrolling articles that oppose vandalism. Someone named Dicklyon checks for scientific accuracy. So that's mostly just us five people in Color Project.

Anyhow, I hope you'll leave with my suggestion.

Best wishes, Keraunos (talk) 07:20, 25 October 2010 (UTC)

Yes, I have followed your advice completely; the only ones removed are black and white. Thank you very much, Walkerma (talk) 03:34, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Three Kingdoms Feedback

  • The Roman article of the Three Kingdoms needs to update to this revision, because the one currently selected has vandalism.
  • Ma Chao - this revision fixes a typo

That's it, I think. Thanks _dk (talk) 06:22, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Now done - thanks! Walkerma (talk) 21:32, October 18, 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia: WikiProject Poetry

Re Wikipedia: WikiProject Poetry Suggestions, I think this article is too rough to submit - they have not been edited seriously or substantive content was added edited for years.

  • Pablo Neruda
  • Robert Browning
  • Elizabeth Barrett Browning
  • Nikos Kazantzakis

I would suggest instead:

  • Alfred, Lord Tennyson
  • Sylvia Plath
  • Oscar Wilde
  • Seamus Heaney

Most of the classroom assessments are very outdated. It's just an individual pickup, I'm not talking on behalf of others. Thank you Spanglej (talk) 07:38, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Neruda is just as important for Chilean people as Seamus Heaney is today, not sure if it will be the best of all, Sadads (talk) 13:48, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Of course, I'm only commenting on the state of the article, not global or local interests. Heaney has had a recent cleanup, Neruda has not, as far as I know. Span (talk) 00:11, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Unfortunately, we can not really exclude this because they are too important, and they're on the list for some WikiProjects. If we miss the Brownings, many poetry lovers will complain, I'm sure! The four suggestions added are selected; I thought maybe you did not see the full list (you may have to see "100 next entries"). Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:37, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Namibian Project

Furthermore the nominees, in their version at 07:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC):

  • Twyfelfontein (GA, Mid) - Namibia's only World Heritage Site,
  • Caprivi treason trial (C, High) - May be interesting in terms of current politics and Human Rights,
  • Dorsland Trek (Start, Mid) - It might be interesting how whites come to settle in the interior of Africa.

And info: Walvis Bay and LÃÆ'¼deritz have been relegated to "High". --Pallow (talk) 07:54, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

PS1: I am one of the two active members of this project.
PS2: Bushmen, an article chosen to make it 0.8, is a derogatory term and a violation of San, as they are properly called. I can try to get consensus to move the article before the deadline, or is it too late? --Pallow (talk) 08:47, September 20, 2010 (UTC)
I think I may have contacted you through your talk page, but never officially recorded my reply here. I have added Twyfelfontein, but the other two are too specific for this release. I see San's article has not been moved yet. I hope you can get that when we produce Version 1.0 - maybe early next year. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:46, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikiproject Avatar: The Last Airbender

For the most part, the election selected seems to be fine. However, I will take on a newer revision of the main Avatar: Last Airbender article, as some of the content has changed significantly since the currently selected revision for Version 0.8. - Parent5446? Done. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:54, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Atorvastatin

The selected version has a bit of a formatting problem in the "FDA Approved Indications" section, probably more. Richiez (talk) 08:54, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject South Africa

Rating articles for WikiProject South Africa are still very bad, but I'm sure the following article may be considered for inclusion in Release of version 0.8

  • South African Astronomical Observation - Now rated as B, Middle
  • Great South African Telescope - Now rated as B, Middle

--NJR_ZA (talk) 09:54, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Both articles are somewhat low - the telescope is a bit limit, but there is no compelling reason to add. The WikiProject does not respond to my posts, so I'll leave them for now. If the telescope can be lifted to GA, we can add it. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 04:03, 2 December 2010 (UTC)

Wikiproject Ships

The selected articles appear to be biased against military ships. We need some merchant ships, which are glamorous and not so glamorous. Therefore I propose for consideration

  • SS Irish Oak (1919) (GA), a neutral merchant that was drowned by Germany during the Second World War.
  • SS Timothy Bloodworth (A), a freedom ship.
  • TIV MPI Resolution (B), a special ship to build offshore windfarms.

This should overcome the balance a bit. Mjroots (talk) 10:09, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

I agree wholeheartedly with sentiments (My dad is at the Traders Navy in WW2), but this article scores very low, unfortunately. For example, most articles in the collection earn a few hundred clicks per day instead of monthly. However, the Resolution article is not considered because it is not marked by the project to date; I checked the statistics by hand and for this new article is pretty good, and the article also includes new and potentially important ship types. It's also very fun - important for a collection that is potentially used in schools (see Fish posts above!) - so I'll strangle my neck and put it in. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 03:48, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject UK Railways

  • Talyllyn Railway - the selected version has dead links in it, the current revision fixes this (diff).Ã, - Ã, TivedshamboÃ, (t/c) 11:40, 20 September 2010 (UTC)
Done, thank you very much! Walkerma (talk) 04:33, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Richard Wagner

Houston Stewart Chamberlain seems too exaggerated. This article has a very low meaning in terms of Richard Wagner, and is very important in Opera (where WP Wagner is a branch) or music. He is a very obscure figure (apart from one's view of his opnions) and certainly does not deserve to be on Wikipedia 0.8 !! --Serus (talk) 12:10, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Separately, I noted that three of the four opera Ring are included. This makes the selection seem very haphazard. Siegfried (opera) must be handled in the same way as Das Rheingold, Die WalkÃÆ'¼re and GÃÆ'¶tterdÃÆ'¤mmerung - everything, or all of them. If they are included, then they need to get away quickly. The four rely entirely on two Ring article compositions for details of the composition of individual works. I will immediately hack them to include some info and then tell you which version to use.-- Peter Cohen (talk) 21:12, 20 September 2010 (UTC)

Further to us at WP: Wagner has decided that the four articles mentioned above are not suitable for inclusion and should and therefore Das Rheingold, Die WalkÃÆ'¼re and GÃÆ'¶terterÃÆ'¤mmerung should be removed and Siegfried (opera) must remain abandoned. The consensus as a project is that four articles are overvalued in the last judgment and I have downgraded them. Also the selected version of Die WalkÃÆ'¼re contains a large dirty copyvio which has since been fixed.

On the other hand, Die Meistersinger von NÃÆ'¼rnberg has risen since last rated. I have now upgraded to B and it should be included in the build.-- Peter Cohen (talk) 19:26, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

The project also supports the inclusion of Cosima Wagner, BP Wagner's second wife who led the Bayreuth Festival for many years after his death.-- Peter cohen (talk) 19:52, 22 September 2010 (UTC)

All of the above reflect conversations on the talks page project Wikipedia talk: WikiProject Richard Wagner # Richard Wagner article has been selected for the release of Wikipedia 0.8 - Peter cohen (talk) 00:55, 24 September 2010 (UTC)

OK thank you, this is very helpful! I would expect us to include all four parts of the ring circle (bots do not know they're connected!), But it seems as though we have to wait for the next release for you to drop them into shape. At least we have Der Ring des Nibelungen. I agree with your suggestion of Cosima Wagner and Die Meistersinger von NÃÆ'¼rnberg, this looks to be an excellent choice. Regarding Houston Stewart Chamberlain, I thought I'd leave it; it's hard to remove articles that appeal to some diverse WikiProjects, because people may say "no problem" while others may disagree strongly (although it's true that no one judges that is so important). In addition, the statistics are very clear and consistent, with 4-5000 people per month reading the article even until 2008. There are articles about him in Latvian, Bulgarian, Farsi, Japanese and more, showing the importance of the whole world. So I thought I would play it safe and leave that one. Many thanks for your outstanding response. Walkerma (talk) 04:14, October 24, 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Cuba

I can suggest:

  • Rita Montaner
  • Search

Macdonald-ross (talk) 12:27, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, but the external interest score for this is too low, and I do not see convincing arguments for completeness, etc. that can be created. If they make it to the FA, they might make it the next choice. Thanks, Walkerma (talk) 04:19, 24 October 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject U2

Because our project determines the revision of updated articles that must be included for release, they will be posted here:

WikiProject Venezuela

Most of the articles I do not know (not a core topic of Venezuela), but

  • using the Venezuelan Economic version from February 2010 is not good - from then on quite a lot of cleaning: compare first and now. Still far from great, but better.
  • same goes for Hugo Chavez. It remains a disaster, but the latest version of the disaster will be better.
  • The United Socialist Party of Venezuela is an important subject, but the article is quite useless. May include that.
  • Venezuela is important but only OKish; if we have a few weeks, WPVEN will probably try and fix it up a bit.
  • In addition to Caracas (which is OK as an article) and List of Venezuelan Presidents (List of Featured, but boring), and the Venezuelan national football team (quite I guess) is actually from the list [2] for a truly Venezuelan topic, regional or tangential.

So, suggestions to include:

  • The Presidency of Hugo ChÃÆ'¡vez presents the latest issues much better than Hugo Chavez; imperfect, but do a decent job to cover most things that need to be addressed in an adequate way.
  • The Venezuelan presidential election, 1998 may be eligible to be included (people always ask how "this person" got elected at first).
  • The Revolution Will Not Be On Television (film) - the latest FA article in Venezuela (only 1 out of 7).

Rd232 talk 16:03, September 20, 2010 (UTC)

Update: after the main revision of the (previously quite surprisingly inadequate) leadership and agency, please use at least this Venezuelan revision. Rd232 talk 23:37, 24 September 2010 (UTC)
