The RoadRunner Turbo Indy 300 in Kansas is an IndyCar Series race held at Kansas Speedway in Kansas City, Kansas. IRL Indycar Series debuted in 2001.
The first Indy/Championship match in Kansas City occurred in 1922-1924, at Kansas City Speedway now being destroyed in Kansas City, Missouri. AAA held four races on a 1.25 mile (2.01 km) track for three years. The last race was shortened from 250 miles (400 km) to 150 miles (240 km) due to damage to the track, and the series did not return.
In 2007, the race took place on April 29, 2007. This step was done at the request of the audience and participants, in the hope of cooler weather for the day of the race. The first six years saw the race held on very hot and humid days, making it difficult for fans and drivers. With a new date, it will mark the last IRL race before the Indianapolis 500.
The 2007 event marked one of very few women competing at the same time in a major race in North America. Danica Patrick, Sarah Fisher and Milka Duno completed 7, 12, and 14 respectively.
The 2010 event saw it become an undercard race to NASCAR Camping World Truck Series O'Reilly Auto Parts 250 on Sunday, not in any other way, like the other nine races. This decision was made in order for Truck races not to run against the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Crown Royal 400 at Richmond International Raceway under a NASCAR ban prohibiting two national series to run at the same time.
