Personal life

Hendrick, born on July 12, 1949, in Warrenton, NC, grew up on his family farm. Hendrick, at the age of 14, began racing in a homemade Chevrolet 1931. Two years later, at the age of 16, Hendrick won the Virginia Division of the Chrysler-Plymouth Troubleshooting Contest, a two-part test consisting of a written exam and a direct diagnosis and repair of defects that were planted in the car. While attending Park View High School in South Hill, Virginia, he was considered a professional baseball player. After high school, he decided to pursue a co-op work course with North Carolina State University and Westinghouse Electric Company in Raleigh, North Carolina.

After that, Hendrick opened many used cars with Mike Leith, named Hendrick Automotive Group. Leith, an established new car dealer, is sure to name Hendrick as general sales manager of the company, at the age of 23. In 1976, he sold his assets to buy a franchise in Bennettsville, South Carolina. After doing so, he became the youngest Chevrolet dealer in the United States. Hendrick's influence boosted sales to make the ever problematic location the most profitable. The success of Bennettsville is a precursor to Hendrick Automotive Group, which now has 98 franchises and 10,000 employees in 13 states. Headquartered in Charlotte, North Carolina, the company has revenues of more than $ 3.5 billion in 2009, after selling 100,000 vehicles and serving 1.5 million, and is the sixth largest dealer in the United States. Hendrick is also chairman of the company.

Hendrick drove in two races during the 1987 and 1988 Winston Cup Series, with respectively finished 33 and 15, respectively. He also has a good starting single in the Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series. He has also been a member of the pit crew for Flying 11 which Ray Hendrick replied to (no relationship) in the 1960s. In 1997, Hendrick started the Hendrick Marrow Program, a nonprofit work with the Be The Match Foundation to support the National Marrow Donor Program. This raises funds to add volunteers to the Be The Match Registry, which helps find marital compatibility for patients. It also provides assistance to beneficiaries with uninsured transplant costs. From the outset, he has raised millions of dollars, 100,000 potential donors to the organization and reduced the financial burdens of more than 5,000 patients with grants from the Hendrick Family Fund for Patient Assistance.

After that, he and his wife, Linda, were honored in 1999 with the Be Be Foundation Foundation's Leadership for the Life Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made outstanding commitments to serve marrow transplant patients. Some past patients include US Rep. C.W. Bill Young, great baseball Rod Carew and former Postmaster General William J. Henderson. He took a personal approach to the cause after being diagnosed in November 1996 with chronic myelogenous leukemia, but has been in full pardon since December 1999. Hendrick also has a passion for The Hendrick Foundation for Children, a foundation that supports useful programs and services. children with diseases, injuries, disabilities or other obstacles, and was founded by his brother, John Hendrick. Governor Jim Hunt acknowledged Hendrick in 1996 with The Order of the Long Leaf Pine, North Carolina's highest civilian award. This award is given to citizens who have a proven track record of outstanding service. Previous recipients include journalist Charles Kuralt, Reverend Billy Graham, artist Bob Timberlake and Hendrick's father, Joe Hendrick, who presented the award by Governor Mike Easley in 2004.

In 1997, Hendrick pleaded guilty to mail fraud. In the 1980s, Honda's cars were in great demand and Honda executives allegedly asked for bribes from dealers for greater product liquefaction. Hendrick claims to give hundreds of thousands of dollars, BMW cars, and homes to American Honda Motor Company executives. Hendrick was sentenced in December 1997 to a $ 12,000 fine, a 12-month home confinement (not a prison, due to leukemia), a three-year trial period, and was not involved with Hendrick Automotive Group (run by Jim Perkins) or Hendrick Motorsports (run by his brother John) during his year of confinement. In December 2000, Hendrick received a full pardon from President Bill Clinton.

Team owner

In the late 1970s, Hendrick set up a drag racing team that won three consecutive championships, and set a world record of 222.2 mph (357.6 km/h) with Nitro Fever. He then moved to NASCAR Model Sportsman Series (now Xfinity Series), where he earned a victory with Dale Earnhardt at Charlotte Motor Speedway. In 1984, he founded All-Star Racing (now Hendrick Motorsports). With five full-time employees and 5,000 square feet (460 m 2 ) workspace, he dropped a NASCAR Winston Cup team (now Monster Energy NASCAR Cup). With driver Geoff Bodine, his team managed to race in all 30 races to finish ninth in the final standings with three wins and pole positions. Throughout his career as a team owner, Hendrick has won 16 Driver Championships (12 Sprint Cup Series, 1 Xfinity Series and three Camping World Truck Series), 296 race wins (245 Sprint Cup Series, 26 Xfinity Series and 26 Truck Series), and 245 pole positions (189 Sprint Cup Series, 35 Xfinity Series, and 21 Truck Series). He is widely regarded as the most successful team owner in NASCAR history.

In the late 1980s, Hendrick owned the Goodswrench IMSA GTP Corvette driven by Sarel Van der Merwe and Doc Bundy. The car was actually built by Lola but resembled later Corvette models and is powered by a twin-turbo GM V-6 engine. The GTP team is based in a small shop in Gasoline Alley (formerly Roena St.) in Indianapolis, Indiana and is managed by Ken Howes of South Africa. The team experienced mixed success, setting track records and winning many pole positions but few races. The project was abandoned only after a few seasons. He currently has 4 full-time drivers in NASCAR Monster Energy Cups Series, Jimmie Johnson, Chase Elliott, William Byron, and Alex Bowman.
