First generation Stepwgn originally appeared at the Tokyo Motor Show as "F-MX" in 1995.
Initial release (1996 -)
Japanese sales began on May 8, 1996. At that time, most of the competing Japanese vehicles usually had engines mounted under the driver's seat, or cabover type. To improve profitability, cost reduction measures are used, as there is only one machine option and transmission; an inline two-liter four and cvt (continuously variable automatic transmission), and the vehicle design reduces the use of panels and steel parts.
