Honda launched a platform for hybrid electric plug-in mid-size vehicles at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show. The plug-in platforms showcase the hybrid system of two next-generation Honda motors, which continue to move through three different modes to maximize driving efficiency: all electric, gasoline and direct engine drive modes. The hybrid plug-in also uses regenerative braking to charge the battery. In all-electric mode, this vehicle uses 6 kWh lithium-ion battery and 120 kW electric motor. The all-electric mode reaches a range of about 10 to 15Ã, mi (16 to 24Ã, km) in city driving and a top speed of 62 mph (100 km/h). Recharging the battery fully will take 2 to 2.5 hours using a 120-volt outlet and 1 to 1.5 hours using a 240-volt outlet. Honda announced at the 2012 North American International Exhibition in Detroit that the first US application of a direct-injected 2.4-liter engine and two plug-in hybrid systems to apply to the ninth-generation Accord Plug-in 2013 Hybrid, with sales scheduled for late 2012 or early 2013. Production of the Accord Plug-in Hybrid begins on December 21, 2012.
In September 2012 Honda announced that its 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid model sedan will be built in Sayama, Japan. Honda also explained that the plug-in will be available in a very complete trim level based on the standard features of the Accord Touring. The 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid is scheduled for release in early 2013, and will serve as the basis for the conventional Hybrid Accord Sedan hybrid version to be sold in mid 2013. The production version will feature a 6.7 kWh lithium-ion battery pack to power the 124 kW mated to the Earth Dreams i-VTEC 2.0-liter 4-cylinder Atkinson-cycle gasoline engine generates 137 hp (102 kW) at 6200 rpm. , and together the total system output is 196 hp (146 kW), which goes beyond the Toyota Prius Plug-in Hybrid (134 hp), the Chevrolet Volt (149 hp) and the future Ford Fusion Energy plug-in hybrid.
Honda expects the 2014 Accord Plug-in Hybrid to provide an all-electric range of up to 15 m (24 km) and a total driving distance of over 500 mi (800 km) based on the US EPA test determined by Honda. The car manufacturer also expects fuel economy for the Accord Plug-in Hybrid to exceed 100 miles per gallon equivalent gasoline (MPG-e) (2.4 L/100 km; 120 mpg-imp equivalent), and also expects it to receive AT Rank Improvement -PZEV from California Air Resources Board (CARB).
The official EPA rating for plug-in hybrids is a 13A mile (21 km incubation) of an all-electric range with a combined fuel economy rating of 115 miles per gallon of equivalent gasoline (MPG-e), the highest in its class. EPA ratings for operations in hybrid mode are 46A mpg -US (5.1a L/100A km; 55A mpg -imp ) in the combined city/highway cycle, 47A mpg < sub> -US (5.0AL/100A km; 56A mpg -imp ) in the city, and 46A mpg -US (5.1a L/100A km; 55 mpg -imp ) in road driving. The Accord PHEV 2014 is the first car in the US to meet new LEV3/SULEV20 emissions standards, and will have access to single occupant carpool in California.
Natural Gas Plug-in and GX Stopped
In June 2015 Honda announced that the Accord Plug-in Hybrid will be discontinued after the 2015 model, along with the Civic Hybrid and the Honda Civic GX that are powered by natural gas. This decision is partly due to Honda's ability to advance fuel economy through conventional engine technology. The company plans to launch new hybrid models and specialty battery-powered electric vehicles after the introduction of next-generation fuel cell vehicles by 2016.
2016 Refresh and 2017 Hybrid
The ninth-generation accords receive a refresher for the 2016 model year. Changes to the outer look include a new front fascia, grille, headlamps, rear lights, and alloy wheels design. The Hybrid Accord returns for the 2017 model with a revised gear that has a combined 214 hp (160 kW), up from 196 hp (146 kW) from 2014 & The 2015 model year version. The Accord Hybrid Plug-in makes no profit, instead of being replaced by the Honda Clarity PHEV 2017.
Mechanical
The ninth-generation Accord offers the following powertrains: A new direct-injection "Spirit Dreams" 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve four-cylinder engine rated at 185 hp (138 kW) to 181 lb. (245 μ N) M torque paired with a manual transmission six or continuous variable transmission; 3.5-liter SOHC V6 3.5-liter updates mated either to a six-speed manual or automatically rated at 278 hp (207 kW) and 252 lb ft (342 N? m); and a hybrid powertrain (named i-MMD) that integrates a 2.0-liter Atkinson Cycle gasoline engine with electric motors and lithium-ion batteries in North America. The hybrid system acts as a continuous variable transmission of electricity while in a gasoline-electric hybrid mode, and is rated at 196 hp (146 kW) and 226 lb ft (306 N m). Both conventional hybrid and plug-in configurations are offered, both released in the US market in the second half of 2013.
Honda focus on driving quality, responsiveness, and ride comfort with fully redesigned front suspension. The simpler MacPherson buffer design, replacing the front suspension of the class and a very fine double wishbone front suspension, is used since the second generation Accord. The rear suspension maintains an independent multi-link suspension. The more expensive design is now only available on the top Acura RLX. The new front suspension helps shave the weight and free up space in the engine compartment. In addition to Honda Advanced Compatibility Engineering safety issues, there is a focus on body stiffness and dynamic handling responses by increasing structural rigidity around the front buffer towers and lower control arms. All but the features of the LX trim bar strut. All trims receive enhanced shocks in front and rear. Trim Touring now comes with a more sophisticated dual piston shock called "Amplitude Reactive Damper" which was recently introduced on some Acura models.
The Accord body now uses 55.8% high-strength steel, a total of 17.2% is one of 780, 980 or 1,500 MPa which produces a type of power not used in previous generations. The Accord steel front subframe was previously replaced with aluminum and steel components weighing à £ 14 (6.4 kg) less and produced using a frictional mortar welding (hybrid model using subframe and all-aluminum hood). Overall weight loss 55 pounds (25 kg).
In North America, the 2016 Accord now has a front disc brake diameter of 11.1 in (LX only), 11.5 in, or 12.3 in (Sport/Touring), depending on the model and trim, while the rear discs are 11, 1 inch diameter.
Crop level
Two additional trim levels are added in the North American market, Sport and Touring. The Accord Sport Sedan is placed between the LX and EX models and features a 2.4-liter DOHC 16-valve inline-four engines rated at 189hp and 182Ã, lb? Ft (247Ã, N? M) torque, 18-inch wheels and wider tires, dual exhaust, decklid spoiler, fog lamps, steering and leather-covered seats, exclusive carbon-fiber trim trim, and paddle shifter mounted on the steering wheel models equipped with continuous variable transmission. Starting on the 2016 model year, Sport trim features LED daytime running lights, enhanced LED fog lights, and 19-inch alloy wheels, wider and wider tires (235/40 R19 96V), and larger front brake rotor found. in Accord Touring Sedan, mainstay lineup.
