Car and Driver 10Best is a list produced annually by Car and Driver ( C/D ), nominate what it's considering the top ten cars of the year. C/D also produced a list of 5Best , highlighting what he considered to be the best five trucks of the year.
All production vehicles sold during the calendar year are considered with this limitation:
- Vehicles must be on sale starting January
- Must be priced under 2.5 times the average car price of that year
- The manufacturer should provide an example to test
- Only vehicles that were changed substantially or recently and 10 winners last year were nominated for
The magazine sometimes selects certain trims and other times the entire family of vehicles.

Ten Great Marques
From 1983 to 2008, the following marques were represented on most lists, including lists of cars and trucks (except for trucks in 2008).

Top Manufacturer
Further damaging marques into their controlling manufacturers reinforced Honda's dominance of the contest over the past 25 years.
Note that this number is distorted by some of the products taken over the years. For example, Chrysler minivans are taken three times, with a total of 8 "points" for Chrysler of three wins. The Diamond-Star car is the same problem, double-dipping "points" for Mitsubishi, Plymouth, and Eagle. This situation is not "fixed"; more precisely, they are left as it is, a total slant.
Also note that changing ownership can affect the amount. Chrysler and Dodge products from 1999 to 2007 were calculated for Daimler-Benz/DaimlerChrysler/Daimler AG, as the company had acquired Chrysler as a whole during that period. Similarly, Saab's post-2000 products, if they win a place on the list, will be counted for General Motors. Despite strong corporate ties during this period, Mazda remains separate from Ford, Subaru from General Motors and Toyota, Nissan from Renault, and Mitsubishi from Chrysler.
