Honda Civic del Sol is a 2-passenger front-wheel drive engine, the top targa car manufactured by Honda in the 1990s. Based on the Honda Civic platform, del Sol is Honda CR-X's popular successor. It debuted in 1992 in Japan, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

The Spanish name del Sol is translated to sun , and refers to the opening roof of the car. It's not a full convertible, featuring a removable hardtop stored in the trunk and a retractable rear window for a convertible feel (known as the top targa). The trunk space is reduced from 9.5 cubic feet to 6.5 cubic feet while the upper targa is stored.

In the US market the naming convention of the CR-X is dropped from the del Sol line as it is clearly different from the previous model, the hatchback and not the targas. Starting with the 1995 model, Honda dropped the name 'Civic' from del Sol in the Americas. In Europe, this car debuted as a Civic CRX. The Sol del tag was added in 1994 and at the same time the Civic name was dropped, named it CRX del Sol for the rest of the run.

Production and sales ended with 1997 models in the US and 1998 elsewhere, with a total of less than 75,000 vehicles sold in America.

TransTop

The choice available in Japan and Europe is TransTop, an electric mechanism that pulls the upper targa into the trunk via a push of a button. The roof is operated by flicking two catches above the window, then pressing a button. The trunk lid raises vertically and the two arms extend over the targa. After locking the lid to the arm, the arm pulls the targa into the trunk lid, which lowers back down with the roof inside. The open process is reversed for closure and the return of the upper targa.
