The Ford Escape is a compact crossover vehicle sold by Ford since 2000 for three generations. Ford released the original model in 2000 for the 2001 model - a model co-developed and released with Mazda Japan - who took the lead in engineering both models and sold their version as the Mazda Tribute . Although Escape and Tribute share the same foundation built from the Ford CD2 platform (based on the foundation of the Mazda GF), the common panels for both vehicles are roof and floor presses. Powertrains are supplied by Mazda with respect to an inline-four engine base, with Ford providing an optional V6. Initially, the twin models were assembled by Ford in the US for North American consumption, with Mazda in Japan supplying cars to other markets. It follows a long history of Ford, which began with Ford Courier in the 1970s. Ford also sold the first generation Escape in Europe and China as Ford Maverick , replacing the previous Nissan-source model. Then in 2004, for the 2005 model year, Ford's luxury Mercury division released a rebadged version called Mercury Mariner , which is sold primarily in North America. The first Escape iteration remained famous as the first SUV to offer the hybrid drivetrain option, released in 2004 for the 2005 model year to the North American market only.
Mainstream Escape/Tribute mainstream production ended at the end of 2006. For the Asia-Pacific market, both received their respective facelifts in 2006 and production was fully transferred to Ford Lio Ho in Taiwan. Mazda's production extension lasts until 2010, with Ford holding out until 2012.
The second generation of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, and Mazda Tribute were released in 2007 for the 2008 model year, but are mostly limited in North America. In other markets, the first generation model was replaced with an updated first series version made in Taiwan, and/or by unrelated Mazda CX-7 (2006) and Ford Kuga (2008). The second generation of North America is just the first, with a mechanical carry-over, but with an upgraded hanging panel and a redesigned interior. Unlike the collaborative approach taken with the previous model, this time the design and engineering was done by Ford. More hybrid options available. The Mercury version lasts until the end of 2010, withdrawn from the market as part of the Mercury brand closure, with the final production of the Tribute Mazda at the end of 2011. Ford ended its second Escape series in 2012.
Ford released the third generation in 2012 for the 2013 model year, again, limited in North America. This time, rather than pulling out the original model, even though Mazda is downgraded, Ford rewinds Escape with Ford Kuga designed in Europe. Although still manufactured in the US, and equipped with slightly different powertrains, the third generation Escape fully aligns with Kuga according to the "One Ford" plan because it only has one vehicle per international segment.

Generasi pertama (2001-2007)
The first generation Ford Escape was released in 2000 for the 2001 model. It was jointly developed with Mazda, where Ford has a controlling interest, and was released alongside the Mazda Tribute. Both are built on the Ford CD2 platform, in turn based on the Mazda GF platform.
At that time, larger sporting vehicles tend to use truck-on-frame designs based on pickup trucks. Other car makers, Jeep, Toyota and Honda have offered smaller unibody designs, Jeep Cherokee (XJ), RAV4 and CR-V. The solid rear axle is commonly used on full-sized truck-based SUVs and the Jeep Cherokee because of its ability to carry heavy loads at the expense of comfortable ride and good handling. Ford and Mazda decided to offer cars, such as unibody designs with fully independent suspension and rack and pinion steering similar to RAV4 and CR-V, Escape. While not intended for serious off-road, the Dana-provided full-time all-wheel-drive (AWD) system is optional, including locking differential locks activated by switches on the dashboard. The AWD system usually sends most of the power from the engine to the front wheels. If a slip is detected in front, more power will be sent to the rear wheels in a fraction of a second. The four-wheel drive system is a newer version of Ford's 4x4 "Control Trac" system, dubbed Control Trac II 4WD in Escape. This system allows the front wheel to receive 100% of the torque until the slip is detected. Using Rotary Blade Coupling, the rear wheels can be shipped up to 100% of the power in fractions of a second. When switching system from "Automatic" to "On", front and rear axles are locked at 50/50 split; the reaction time required to engage the rear wheel is reduced through an integrated bypass coupling. The Control Trac II system allows for four-wheel drive vehicles without the use of central differentials. The entire braking system is built by Continental Teves, including ABS and related suspension components. CKD production began in 2002 at Ford Lio Ho Motor Co. in Taiwan for various Asian markets.
One major difference between the Tribute and Ford Escape is that the Tribute suspension is tuned to ride stronger than Escape, to fit the sporty image of Mazda.
Ford
- 2000-2004 (BA, ZA)
In North America, it's placed under Explorer, a larger truck-based in the Ford lineup, but larger than the small SUV offerings from Honda and Toyota. Although technically a crossover vehicle, it is marketed by Ford as part of the traditional SUV range (Escape, Explorer, Expedition) rather than a separate crossover line (Edge, Flex).
From 2001 to 2004, the Ford Escape was sold in Europe under the name Maverick, and replaced the rebadged version of Nissan Mistral/Terrano II. Only two versions are made, 2.0 inline Zetec engine 2.0 with manual transmission and 3.0Ã, L Duratec V6 with automatic transmission, both using gasoline as fuel. The absence of a diesel version did not help sales and vehicles temporarily discontinued in late 2003. However, Maverick, in the UK for example, is only available on XLT trim. Plus, the dashboard is not the same as the US Escape; instead of the Mazda Tribute. The Maverick was reintroduced in 2005 in certain European markets with the Duratec V6 engine. It has been announced that Maverick will be assembled in Russia for the Russian market. In 2006, Maverick was no longer sold in Europe, leaving Ford without a compact SUV until Ford Kuga 2008 was introduced. The Maverick is primarily designed for on-street use - sold with normal road tires, and for use with front-wheel drive most of the time.
The test results for Escape have been mixed. In the New Car Assessment Program run by the US National Road Traffic Safety Agency based in the US, the car received five out of five stars for driver protection and four out of five stars for passenger protection in 35 mph (56 km/h) frontal impact. The SUV received five stars for the driver and rear passengers in a side impact test. At the Insurance for Highway Safety Institute's 40 mph (64 km/h) frontal offset test, 2001-2004 Escapes received a "Marginal" score. In a side impact collision test, vehicles equipped with optional side air bags received a "Good" score of 31 mph (50 km/h), while those without an optional air bag received a "Poor" score.
All Escapes are equipped with a passive 'Immobilizer' called SecuriLock. This feature includes an embedded 'RFID' chip in the lock that is read by the car every time the vehicle starts. If the vehicle fails to receive a valid confirmation signal from the key, the vehicle will not run, even though the key is perfectly cut to fit the original. Thefts, injuries, and collision losses reported to the insurance company for Escape are among the lowest in its class.
- North America
In the United States, all Escapes include standard equipment such as power windows, power door locks, anti-lock (ABS) braking systems, keyless entry, folding rear seat seats, 16-inch wheels and air conditioning. In addition, Escape buyers can choose from one of several available trim levels, which include:

- 2004-2006 (ZB)
Escape and Tribute was updated in February 2004 for the 2005 model year with a new base engine (2,3Ã,Ã [2261 cc, 140 cu in] Duratec 23), which replaced Zetec 2.0Ã,Ã < (1983 cc, 121 cu in) 127Ã, hp (95Ã,kW) 4-cylinder. The most powerful engine remains 200 hp (150 kW) Duratec 3.0 L (2976 cc, 181 cu) V6, with a new engine mount. Ford also added sophisticated airbags and safety belt systems, smart AWD systems, and exterior changes, which include a redesigned front bumper. The 2005 model year is the first with an automatic transmission available on a four-cylinder base model. Shifters are automatically moved from column to console on all models equipped with automatic transmissions. Ford also removed the lying down features in the rear seats to improve passenger safety in the rear seats in case of rear-end accidents.
- 2006-2008 (ZC: Asia-Pacific)
The redesigned ZC Escape in Taiwan went on sale in the second half of 2006 for the Asian and Pacific markets (except South Korea, where Escape North America market is sold). Major external changes include a redesigned front bumper, grille, headlights and hood, and rear bumper, as well as LED taillights.
Inside, changes include a floor-mounted automatic transmitter switch, on-site column shifter, as well as a redesigned center pile that contains audio and climate controls. Automatic climate control on all models except XLS. The Limited model also features full color coded bumpers, wheel arches and side molds, as well as side mirrors with integrated LED indicators. The rear drum brakes have been replaced by disc brakes all round.
The 3.0 V6 L has been modified to reduce fuel consumption by more than 10%, while the 2.3 L 4-cylinder has increased midrange and throttle electronic torques, as well as slightly increased power for 109 kW (146 hp). Both engines have been certified to meet Euro III emission regulations. Four speeds are automatically taken and are the only option of transmission. Two different four-speed automatic transmissions are used, CD4E for 3.0Ã, L V6 and GF4AX-EL for 2.3 L L 4-cylinders.
- 2008-2009 (ZD; Asia-Pacific)
The ZD Escape went on sale in mid 2008, bringing many changes. In Australia, the V6 engine was dropped, leaving only 2.3 liters four cylinders.
The model range is also simplified, with only one specification available. Changes to the body include an all-new front bumper, grille, headlamps and bonnets, featuring an enlarged Ford emblem with three bars of chrome grille. At the rear, a new, sleeker tail light is displayed, which is arranged horizontally instead of vertically. In addition, B-pillar is now painted black, not body color. Compared to previous models, all external bumpers, mirrors, and cladding are painted in the same color as the body (previously, this is only available on the upscale Limited model). The level of equipment is also increasing. Compared with the basic ZC Escape model, ZD includes standard side airbags, automatic climate control, 16 "alloy wheels and mirrors with integrated indicators Unlike most other competitors in its class, curtain airbags and electronic stability controls are not available.
- 2009-2012 (ZD: Asia-Pacific)
In 2009, another facelift from ZD Escape brought a new grille and front bumper. Chrome trim is completely removed from the grille, replaced with a smaller black honeycomb grille as the last Ford Escape. In his final years, it was sold side by side with his successor, Ford Kuga to Kuga replacing it in 2013.
Mazda
- 2000-2004
The Tribute debuted at the 2000 Los Angeles Auto Show as a compact SUV crossover, a segment pioneered by the Toyota RAV4 in 1994. This is the first SUV offered by Mazda since Mazda Navajo, the two-door Ford Explorer burglarized. retired after the 1994 model year. In Japan, Mazda has an SUV called the Mazda Proceed Levante, the reclaimed Suzuki Escudo, but the Tribute is the original Mazda's original SUV. The Ford plant in Claycomo, Missouri collects the Tribute for the North American market, along with Ford Escape. Mazda's factory in Hofu, Japan and Ford Lio Ho factory in Taiwan collect Tribute for their respective markets.
The 2001-2006 Mazda tribute is available as a front or four-wheel drive and features spacious yet comfortable interiors, decent handling, and cars like cars. The Tribute and Escape debuted in 2000, offering a front or all-wheel drive and a choice of 2.0-liter Ford Zetec 4-cylinder engines mounted transversely with 129 PS (95 kW)/183 Ã, à ° C (135 Ã, à £ à , Ãμ ft), or 3.0à ¢ â,¬Ã, L Ford Duratec V6 with 203Ã, PS (150Ã, kW)/265Ã, NÃ, à · m (195Ã, lbÃ, à · ft). The 2.0-L 4-cylinder engine features camshafts driven by the timing belt, while 3.0Ã,î Duratec V6 features a maintenance-free timing chain.
- 2004-2006
Both Escape and Tribute were refreshed in 2004 for the 2005 model. The base engine became Mazda 2.3Ã, L MZR 4 with 153Ã, PS (114Ã, kW)/206Ã, à ° C (152Ã, à £ lbÃ,) and the top fixed 3,0Ã, L Duratec V6, now with torque down to 261a, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã, Ã? (193Ã, lbÃ, à · ft). In a model built in North America, automatic transmission transmissions mounted on the floor replace the shifter column. However, Japanese-made models continued with column shifter. Mazda decided to stop production after the 2006 model
Mazda Japan released a limited version, Mazdaspeed Tribute, in 2004 with a 2.3 liter MZR engine that has 220 PS (164.05 kW)/254 NÃ,m (195Ã, lbÃ, à · ft) used by column shifters. However, Mazda Japan decided to end production in 2005.
- 2006-2008 (Asia-Pacific)
The significantly-released Tribute version was released in the second half of 2006 for the Asia Pacific market. The updated tribute features a bigger and bolder grille, with an enlarged Mazda emblem, as well as a front bumper and adjustable headlamps. Side mirror displays integrated indicator.
On the inside, changes include newly installed automatic transmissions on the floor, replacing old column shifter (Asia-Pacific model only; US built tribute earned floor shifter in 2005). The dashboard is updated with new radio and automatic climate control with digital readings, on selected models. Mechanically, the rear drum brakes are replaced by disc brakes. The engine remains the same, but the V6 has been modified to reduce fuel consumption by more than 10%, while the 4-cylinder has improved mid-range torque and electronic throttle. Both engines have been certified to meet Euro III emission regulations.
Starting 2006, Mazda stopped selling and producing Tribute in Japan, and replaced it with a similar-sized CX-7. In 2008 Mazda Australia also stopped the Tribute, the absence of a Tribute filled by Mazda CX-7 introduced in the previous year. For other Asia-Pacific markets, Tribute production is diverted to Ford Lio Ho factory in Zhongli, Taiwan, which also produces Tribute twin sister, Ford Escape, for the Asia-Pacific market. This arrangement continued into early 2010, when the Tribute to the Asia-Pacific market stopped production, completely replaced by CX-7 imported from Japan.
Mercury
Introduced in 2004 for a refresher model of the 2005 Ford Escape in the US, Mercury Ford division released a luxury version called Mercury Mariner. The Mariner sits on top of the Escape in the Ford-Mercury-Lincoln hierarchy. The Mariner is the first Mercury car SUV, and is placed under Mountaineer in the lineup. The Mariner is officially offered in the US, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and UAE. Mercury includes stylistic differences, such as two-tone interiors, rotary signal repeater borrowed from Ford's European market Maverick (Escape name in Europe), monotonous coating, and Mercury's "waterfall" front grille. Unlike its peers, manual transmission is not part of the powertrain range. The Mariner is the first mercury with four cylinders since Mercury Cougar was dropped in 2002. For 2006, the lineup expanded with the introduction of Mariner Hybrid. Sales ended after the 2007 model, replaced by the second generation, again a rejuvenated Ford Escape.
On September 7, 2006, Ford sent a Mercury Mariner Hybrid "Presidential Edition" to former President Bill Clinton. Specific features include: LED light, 110 volt outlet, rear seat, center console & amp; back seat fold-out desk, personal DVD player for every seat, refrigerator, rear seat leg room upgraded. There are also some undisclosed security modifications made to the vehicle.
The Mariner Hybrid powertrain is identical to its brother, Ford Escape Hybrid. Launched to the US market in 2006 and discontinued in 2010 (in the second generation) under other brands. Mariner hybrid sold a total of 12,300 units.
Like the Ford Escape Hybrid, the Mariner Hybrid is a "full" hybrid electric system, meaning the system can switch automatically between pure electric power, pure gasoline engine power, or a combination of electric batteries and gasoline engines operating together, for maximum performance and efficiency at all speeds and loads. When braking or slowing down, the Mariner hybrid system uses regenerative braking, where an electric drive motor becomes a generator, turning the vehicle's momentum back into electricity to be stored in the battery. With 155 hp (116 kW), the Mariner Hybrid has an accelerated performance similar to the conventional 200 hp (150 kW) Mariner V6. Again, like the Escape Hybrid, it gets an honorable average of 34 miles per US gallon (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg -imp ) and is sometimes said to be the most efficient sporting material burn utility vehicles on the road.
Hybrid
The Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid are powered hybrid-electric hybrid versions that were launched in the US in 2004 for the 2005 model year. Built in Kansas City, Missouri, it was the first hybrid SUV to enter the market. The Ford Escape Hybrid is the first American-made hybrid and the first hybrid vehicle from American car makers, joining the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra Hybrids for the same model year. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, the first generation Ford Escape Hybrid is 70% more efficient than the regular Escape. The Mercury Mariner Hybrid is a rebadged version of the Escape Hybrid. It features revised front-end styling and a more luxurious interior.
The escape hybrid version can be identified by the "Hybrid" badge located on the front and passenger driver's door as well as near the right tailgate. In addition, the driver's side window in the cargo area is smaller in size to accommodate the ventilation slot for high voltage batteries. There is also a "Special Appearance Package" available as an option on the 2005-2007 Hybrid model. This package replaces the traditional bottom layer of the Escape with a silver finish. Standard equipment on the Escape Hybrid includes: an eight-way power adjustable driver's seat, two-zone automatic air conditioning, cruise control, six-CD stereo, 16-inch alloy wheels, power door lock with remote lockless entry, and power windows.
Ford built 17,000 Escape Hybrids in the second half of 2004, four times more than originally planned. Beginning in 2005 New York City and other cities in the world began using Ford Escape Hybrid as a taxi. The Ford Escape Hybrid won the North American Truck of the Year award in 2005.
The Escape Hybrid uses a technology similar to that used in the Toyota Prius. Ford engineers realized their technology might be at odds with Toyota's patents, which led to a patent-sharing agreement between companies, Ford's license of some Toyota hybrid technology in exchange for Toyota's use of some Ford diesel and direct-injection technology engines. Ford argued that Ford did not receive technical assistance from Toyota in developing a hybrid powertrain, but some of the hybrid engine technology developed by Ford independently was similar to the technology previously patented by Toyota, so the license was obtained. Aisin Seiki Co. Ltd., a Japanese automotive component supplier incorporated in Toyota Group, supplying continuous HD-10 hybrid transmission for Escape Hybrid. While Toyota produces its third generation Prius transmission in-house, Aisin is the only supplier of hybrid transmissions to other manufacturers. There was friction over Aisin's allocation of limited production capacity and engineering resources for Ford. Sanyo Electric Co. building 50 kg (110 pounds), 330 volts 5.5 Ah (will make it into 1.8kWh storage), 250-cell nickel metal hydride (NiMH) batteries for 2005 Escape Hybrid.
The Escape Hybrid is a full hybrid, which means the system can switch automatically between pure electric power, pure gasoline engine power, or a combination of electric batteries and gasoline engines that operate together, for maximum performance and efficiency at all speeds and loads. When braking or slowing down, the Escape hybrid system uses regenerative braking, where an electric drive motor becomes a generator, turning the vehicle's momentum back into electricity for storage in the battery. The Escape Hybrid 133 horsepower (99Ã, kW) I4 gasoline engine and electric motor combine to deliver 155 hp (116 kW), which delivers an Escape Hybrid similar to acceleration performance like the conventional 200H hp Escape (150Ã, kW) V6 due to electric Torque motor available from zero rpm.
Hybrids are said to deliver about 75% greater efficiency, the FWD version has EPA ratings of 30 mpg and 28 highways, with a combined 29 mpg. The AWD version of EPA ranks 28 cities and 26 highways, combined 27 mpg -US in city traffic, and has indicated it can travel 400-500 miles (644-805 km) on a single 15.0-US - gallon (57 à ° L; 12.5 million gal) mpg -US (7.6L-8.1 L/100 km; 35-37 mpg -imp ) on the road highway. To obtain this mileage number, the owner's manual states that pure gasoline, not a mixture of ethanol, should be used. Unlike conventional vehicles, hybrids often achieve better numbers in the city because they do not waste idling power and can recover some power when stopped (by using regenerative braking) to be wasted in a conventional vehicle.
In 2006, Ford showed an Escape that can run on E85 fuel.

Secondary generation spacer Second generation of second generation Generation 2 (2008-2012)
The second generation Ford Escape debuted at the 2006 Los Angeles International Auto Show. The North American market Escape and its siblings Mazda Tribute and Mercury Mariner redesigned to stay competitive with other new compact SUVs, but most of the internal has been carried over during the 2008 model year. Escape is still using CD2 platform. Ford also incorporated a standard electronic stability control system in Escape 2008.
The updated Escape receives several stylistic cues from Explorer, Edge, and Expedition. The changes include a new grille with larger headlamps on the front fascia, while the sides are revised with cleaner lines and more rounded wheel arches. The interior is also completely redesigned, including the latest standard Ford family navigation system.
The Escape 2008 and Mercury Mariner siblings are the first vehicles featuring Ford's drift drift steering mode, an enhancement made possible by applying control software to the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system.
On June 23, 2010, it was announced that Ford would end production in the second generation Escape in 2011 and transfer production to the Louisville Assembly Plant in Louisville, Kentucky, where it was scheduled to be replaced by a Taiwanese version of its European CUV counterpart. , Ford Kuga.
Ford
The new concept version for the Asian market, called Ford Escape Adventure Concept , was revealed at the 2007 Tokyo Motor Show. It features revised front and rear fascia, incorporating Ford's three-bar grille styling theme and LED tail lights restyled.
The 2.3Ã,î L Duratec 23 is replaced by 2.5à ¢ â,¬à ¢ Later, Duratec 25, which increases the standard power to 171Ã, hp (128 kW) and 171Ã, lb? Ft (232Ã,) N? M) of torque, while increasing fuel economy by 1 mpg (~ 2L/100 km) in urban and extra-urban cycles. The optional 3.0 Duratec 30 V6 is completely updated, resulting in a 40 hp (30 kW) increase, resulting in a power output of up to 240 hp (180 kW) and 223 lb of torque? Ft (302Ã, N? M). Duratec 30 also saw an increase in fuel efficiency of 1 mpg -US (240Ã, L/100Ã, km; 1.2 mpg -imp ). The "Escape" badge is completely removed from the front door.
Hybrid is also upgraded to use 2.5Ã, L (though still using the Atkinson cycle for better fuel economy). Efficiency was increased to 34 mpg -US (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg -imp ) city and 31 mpg -US (7 , 6 L/100Ã, km; 37Ã, mpg -imp ) highway in accordance with USEPA. The 2.5 L L engine carries Hybrid output power up to 22 hp (16 kW) when an electric motor is added.
Other mechanical changes include a 18.5 mm rear stabilizer bar (0.73 in), suspension tuning revision, upgraded to 3.0 V6 L that brings power up to 240 hp, and a new exhaust system on all Escapes. The braking system for the Hybrid version has been revised with a vacuum drive unit that has been said by the reviewers to give a consistent impression on the entire journey of the brake pedal. Earlier versions of the Hybrid reportedly had a slightly flabby brake feel, mainly due to the fact that for the first part of the brake and braking trip the system is regenerating its strength rather than using brake pads against the rotor. However, the brakes, when tested, gave Escape a very long stop.
Also in 2009, the Ford SYNC system is standard on Hybrid, Hybrid Limited, and the conventional Limited, and optional models on XLS and XLT.
The Escape underwent some minor aerodynamic changes for 2009, including an improved chin spoiler and a rear tire spoiler. Along with the addition of a rear tire spoiler is an optional "17-chrome plated wheel fitted with a new Michelin" Low-Rolling-Resistance-Tire ", slightly increased ground clearance and improved traction over standard" wheels and tires 16 ". fuel without Ford Easy-Fuel cover.
In August 2009 Escape was among four Ford vehicles, along with Focus, F-Series and Ranger, to benefit from the Cash for Clunkers program, which showed a 49 percent increase in sales.
In 2009 for the 2010 model year, Escape will add three new features that will be standard on all trims: Ford MyKey, trailer shake control, and Integrated Spotter Mirror for better blind spot viewing. Anything added in the 2008 and 2009 models will be done, but optional orders have been renamed to Quick Specification Codes (100 for XLS, 200 for XLT, and 300 for Limited).
New optional feature for 2010: active park assist (APA) is a new feature available since mid 2009 as an option at 2010 Ford Escape Limited (currently only optional in Ford Flex, Lincoln MKT, and Lincoln MKS). Active Park Assist will detect available parallel parking spaces and automatically direct the vehicle to the room (hands free) while the driver controls the accelerator, gearshift and brake. The system will be visually and audibly instructing the driver to park the vehicle. The Active Park Assist system uses sensors on the front and rear of the vehicle to guide the vehicle to the parking lot. Rear view camera system - uses an embedded exterior camera at the rear of the vehicle that sends images to a video display in the rearview mirror or a navigation system screen to help increase visibility directly behind the vehicle on backward.
No cosmetic changes were made for the 2011 model year. The only minor change is the standardization of SYNC Traffic & amp; Instructions on any model that comes with Sync.
No cosmetic or equipment changes for the 2012 model year. The third generation Escape was launched at the 2012 North American International Automotive Exhibition in Detroit.
Electronic Stability Control Systems that were not previously available became standard in the second generation. At the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety accident tests, Escape along with his cousin, Mercury Mariner and Mazda Tribute, were rated "Good" in frontal and side impact collision tests. They were rated "Good" for rear damage protection as well and awarded the "Top Safety Pick" until 2010. In the roof strength test, Escape received the "Marginal" rating while the hybrid model was rated "Poor".
Mazda
In 2007 for the 2008 model year, Tribute was significantly revamped, such as the brothers Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner. Originally set to be renamed Mazda CX-5, the vehicle continues the Tribute name. The change was significant, but it did not achieve a "clean sheet" redesign, as the vehicle remained on the CD2 platform, and retained the older 2.3 MZR I4, and 3.0 A L V6 engines. Visible changes include all new metal sheets and interiors. The interior is significantly enhanced using all new components and higher quality materials, and is generally praised by automotive journalists. However, unlike the first generation of Tribute, which has the unique exterior and interior of its brothers, the new model differs only from its brothers in the "nose" (front fender, hood, and front fascia), tail lights and detail. Important changes to the exterior include higher belt lines, and more prominent wheel arches. Overall the car looks bigger and more substantial than previous models. As a cost-saving measure, the rear brake is returned to the brake drum, with predictable criticism.
The 2008 Mazda Tribute (non-hybrid) was first introduced at the Montreal International Auto Exhibition 2007, and the 2008 Mazda Tribute went on sale in March 2007.
A new addition is the Hybrid model previously only available in Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner.
Tribute received additional major changes to improve performance for the 2009 model year, mostly by means of mechanical upgrading. Most significantly, all new engines replace the 2.3L I4 and 3.0L V6 are increasingly unparalleled. The new Mazda MZR 2.5L I4 replaces 2.3L, increases horsepower to 171 bhp (128 kW; 173 PS) and 171 lb ft (232 N m) of torque at 4000 rpm. Despite the increase in horsepower, fuel economy also increased by 1 mpg -US (240 L/100 km, 1.2 mpg -imp ) on urban and extra-urban cycles. The optional 3.0 A L (AJ) V6 is completely updated, resulting in a 40 hp (30 kW) increase, bringing power output of up to 240 hp (180 kW) and 223 lb of torque? Ft (302Ã, N? M). He also saw an increase of 1 mpg. The Tribute Hybrid was dropped after the 2009 model year.
Another significant change is to switch to Ford's new 6F 6-speed automatic, which is standard on all V6-equipped and optional models on the I4. In addition, the front bar stabilizer bar and 18.5 mm (0.73 in) were added for 2009 to improve driving handling after complaints about reduced performance after the 2008 changes. Other changes include redesigned seats, daytime running lights, optional audio controls installed at the wheel, and other additional features. The tribute was discontinued in November 2011 at the end of the 2011 model year, being replaced by the Mazda CX-5 for 2012.
Mercury
For the 2008 model year Mariner was significantly updated with a new look though it remained on the Ford CD2 platform used by previous generations. The 2008 Mercury Mariner was first introduced at the South Florida International Auto Show on October 6, 2006. The changes include new seats, headlights, rear lights, new lifters, higher beltlines and new doors and wheels. The interior is also updated significantly with higher quality materials and smoother features. The engine remains the same but 3.0Ã, L Duratec V6 has been modified to reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%.
Ford Escape 2009 and Mercury Mariner launched at the 2008 Washington Auto Show. Using a 2.5-liter engine and a 6-speed automatic transmission that replaces the four-speed automatic transmission, the new powertrain improves EPA fuel economy by 1 mile per gallon and increases power by 11% to 170 horsepower (130 kW). Also, there is a 3.0-liter Duratec V6 that strikes from 200 hp (150 kW) to 240 hp (180 kW). The new engine also serves as a new foundation for Ford's hybrid models, including Ford Escape Hybrid and Mercury Mariner Hybrid. "For every eight Escape and Mariner vehicles we sell, one is a hybrid, and its appeal is steadily increasing," said Sue Ciscke, Ford's senior vice president, Sustainability, Environment and Safety Engineering.
For the 2010 model year, Mariner added Ford MyKey and the trailer sway control as standard on all trim levels. The Mariner engine has the Flex-Fuel option on all of its features that can use E85 and/or regular unleaded fuel on an optional V6 engine. Ford also removed the euro-style signal repeater for this year's model. For the 2011 model year, Mariner displays HD Radio as the standard, but continues with the same features as the 2010 model. This Mariner version is the last one, as Ford stops the Mercury brand because of declining sales. Ford ended Mariner production in October 2010. The latter slid from assembly line on October 5, 2010.
Hybrid
The second generation Ford Escape Hybrid received some styling tweaks inside and out. Major cosmetic changes include the new bumper, grille, headlights and taillights to match the new Ford's new style. But the drivetrain is basically the same mechanically but has extensive software modifications. For 2009, larger and more powerful engines were introduced, along with a revised suspension, the addition of stability control, the debut of the "Sync" sound control system and the unclosed fuel filler system. Batteries and other hybrid components in the 2009 Escape hybrid add about 136 kg (300 pounds) to the vehicle. However, additional weight is blamed for adverse effects in handling. Furthermore, from 2009 onwards, the rear disc brakes of previous years were exchanged for drum brakes, which were criticized as "a strange retreat".
The second generation Escape Hybrid generation is offered in two levels of specs, unreliable base models and a more expensive "Limited" trim. Base includes: 60/40 split-fold backrest seats, AdvanceTrac with roll stability control, and one stereo four-speaker CD/MP3 disc with Sirius Satellite Radio compatibility. The "Limited" adds: chrome front grille, heated front seats, six-way power driver seat and full leather seats, rear parking assistance, ambient lighting, and six-inch six-inch six-inch wheels. For the 2009 model year, the Ford SYNC became the standard on both Hybrid and Ford Escape Hybrid trims replacing the "ESCAPE" badge on the door with "HYBRID ," while moving the logo to the Ford hybrid model from near the driver's side door next door text " HYBRID ". The 2010 model sees the addition of MyKey, trailer shake controls, and integrated spotter mirrors for better blind spot viewing. The new optional additions are active garden help and rear-view cameras.
Ford announced the development of the E85 Hybrid Escape prototype, the first flexible flexible fuel hybrid vehicle capable of running on 85% ethanol. In 2007 Ford produced 20 demonstrations of Escape Hybrid E85s for real-world testing in a fleet around the US.
From 2009, the Atkinson 2.5-liter gasoline engine cycles four-cylinder engine with 155 hp at 6,000 rpm with an electric motor that produces 94 hp at 5,000 rpm. The combined maximum output of both is 177 hp.
The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) assessed fuel economy for the 2010 Escape Hybrid (FWD) at 34 miles per US gallon (6.9 L/100 km; 41 mpg -imp ) city, and 31 miles per gallon of US (7.6 L/100 km; 37 mpg -low ) highway. The following table compares fuel economy, carbon footprint, and petroleum consumption between hybrid and other drivetrain versions of the Escape family as predicted by the EPA and the US Department of Energy. The Escape Hybrid meets California SULEV and PZEV standards, with exhaust emissions better than 90% lower than the average new car of 2003 and zero evaporative emissions.
In early 2012 Ford stopped production of Escape Hybrid due to the introduction of the third-generation Escape. Two new models of 2013 Escapes have direct injected and turbocharged EcoBoost units (1.6 and 2.0 liters) that provide higher fuel economy than the 2012 model. A total of 122,850 Escape Hybrids were built since 2005, along with 12,300 units of Mercury Mariner's sister Hybrid, was discontinued in 2010.
- Plugin hybrid
Three companies have turned Ford Escape Hybrids into plug-in under contract with NYSERDA and delivered it in 2007: Electrovaya Toronto Canada, Hymotion also from Toronto Canada, Hybrids Plus from Boulder Colorado, USA.
Ford developed the Escape Plug-in Hybrid study and sent the first of 20 fleets to Southern California Edison (SCE) in December 2007 to begin road testing. The project is a collaboration aimed at exploring the future of plug-in hybrids and evaluating how vehicles can interact with home and utility power grids. Some vehicles will be evaluated "in a typical customer setting", according to Ford. Ford also developed the first fuel plug-in hybrid SUV, which was delivered to the US Department of Energy in June 2008. The plug-in version of Escape Hybrid uses gasoline or E85 and is also part of the demonstration. Ford's fleet was developed in partnership with Southern California Edison and the Electric Power Research Institute.
Both the E85 version and the conventional gasoline engine version use a 10 kwh lithium-ion battery, which allows for a range of 30 miles (48 km) at 40 miles per hour (64 km/h) or less. When the battery charge drops to 30%, the vehicle switches to its four-cylinder engine, aided by the battery, operating as a regular hybrid electric vehicle. Vehicles have a display system that shows the driver how efficient the vehicle is at any given time. If the vehicle uses its engine and runs in a traditional hybrid mode, the fuel economy is rated at 88 miles per gallon US (2.7 L/100 km; 106 mpg -imp ) in the city and 50 miles per gallon US (4.7 L/100 km, 60 mpg -imp ) on the highway.
The Ford Escape Plug-ins fleet has run in field trials with utility vehicle fleets in California, New York, Ohio, North Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, Massachusetts, Michigan and Quebec, Canada. Around 130 more will be produced for testing with financing of a $ 30 million grant from the US Department of Energy. Sales are scheduled for 2012.
In August 2009 Ford delivered the first Escape Plug-in equipped with intelligent vehicle-to-grid (V2G) communication and control system to American Electric Power of Columbus, Ohio. This technology allows the vehicle operator to program when to recharge the vehicle, for how long and at what level of utility. The battery system communicates directly to the power grid through the smart meter provided by utility companies over the wireless network. During the two years since the demonstration program began, the Escape Plug-ins fleet has recorded over 75,000 miles (121,000 km), and Ford plans to complete all 21 plug-in hybrid Escapes with inter-network communication technology..
Ford demonstration vehicles and Hybrids Plus conversions are similar. The conversion involves replacement of the original NiMH battery, located on the luggage floor, with a larger-capacity Li-ion battery, in the same location and substantially the same volume as the original battery. Conversion Electrovaya and Hymotion retain original batteries, and increase their capacity with Li-ion batteries that occupy most of the rods. In all cases, the conversion also involves the addition of a charger and a power plug.
Third generation (2013-present)
The third generation was designed and destroyed by Ford Europe along with Ford Kuga, a very identical European market. It was released to the North American market in 2012 for the 2013 model year. Other markets that previously used the "Escape" name plate have switched to "Kuga" under the One Ford program.
