The Acura EL is a subcompact executive car built in the Alliston plant, Ontario, and also the first Acura built in Canada. EL is a Honda Civic designed with a badge with a higher level of features.
The Acura EL was successful in sales. Representing 51% of Acura's new annual vehicle sales in the first year, EL remained a major seller of Acura in Canada from 1997 to 2003. Acura EL was replaced for the 2006 model by Acura CSX which, like EL, is only available in Canada.

Generasi pertama (1997-2000)
The first generation of EL is a rebadged version of the Japanese market of Honda Domani, a somewhat changed version of the Honda Civic from 1997 to 2000 with the front, rod, lamp and various different interior parts. Honda sold a top-tier Domani at a Japanese dealer sales channel called Honda Clio that sells large or complete luxury sedans like the Honda Legend and Honda Inspire, and sells the more affordable Honda Civic at Honda Primo location. Sold in Canada as Acura 1.6EL , Seeing that sales in Canada for Acura Integra are very low four doors, Honda decided to replace them with the Acura EL four-door only. The 1.6 L VTEC engine produces 127 hp (95 kW) at 6,600 rpm and 107 lb ft (145 N) at 5500 rpm. It has features not available on the same Civic as amber-lit interior dashboard display, tachometer, power trunk (no keyhole in the trunk), alarm, 15-inch wheels (195/55/15), antenna in rear window glass, interior chrome door handle, extra pocket under the center console, paint-match mirror, side mold and door handle, slightly stiffer suspension, 12 mm rear trunk bar and 26 mm swinging front bar, heated mirror and amplifier. From 1999 all 5-speed models have shift buttons wrapped in leather, similar to those in Acura Integra GSR.

- Premium: other than Sport, leather upholstery, and decorative spoiler.

Second generation (2001-2005)
EL was completely redesigned for the 2001 model and then based on the seventh generation Civic. In addition to the more powerful and more powerful VTEC engine equipped with a 1.7L SOHC engine with 4-cylinder design with 127Ã, hp (95 kW), headlights and taillights and interior leather decoration available make it different from the Civic. Other differences include 15-inch multi-spoke alloys, heated power mirrors, cruise control, and rear disc brakes. The badging was changed to Acura 1.7EL and was dropped altogether for 2004.
The second generation is available in trim class and trim tour. The latter adds leather seats, heated front seats and sunroof strength. Automatic climate control was added for premium trim in 2003, and for trim tour also in 2004. All second generation EL models come with ABS anti-lock braking, but in 2003 the electronic brake power distribution system was made standard. For 2003 and 2004, a special dealer 'aero package' installed by the dealer is available for both trim levels that add unique front and rear lips, leftover side and rear spoiler. In 2004, the EL experienced slight exterior changes with adjustable headlamps, front bumper and grille, taillights, trunk lid, and rear bumper. The new display comes with standard fog lights, adjustable steering wheel, new woodgrain trim pattern, and two additional tweeters powered by two amplifiers to complement the 6-speaker audio system.
