The Honda S2000 is a roadster manufactured by Japanese company Honda from 1999 to 2009. First featured as a concept car at the Tokyo Motor Show in 1995, the production version was launched in April 1999 to celebrate its 50th anniversary company. S2000 is named for its two-liter engine, continuing the tradition of the S500, S600, and S800 roadster in the 1960s.
Some revisions are made throughout the lifetime of the car, including changes to the engine, gearbox, suspension, interior and exterior. There are officially two variants: the initial launch model was coded AP1 chassis, although cosmetically similar, the facelifted version (known as AP2 in the US) included significant changes to the drivetrain and suspension. S2000 production ceased in June 2009. In Japan, it is exclusively sold through Honda Verno sales channels.

Concept car
Introduced at the Tokyo Motor Show 1995, the Honda Model Sport Study concept car is a design study for the S2000 production. SSM is a roadster road-wheel-drive supported by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder inline engine (122 Â ° c). It featured a strict 'bone-X height' frame that Honda claimed increased the stiffness and safety of vehicle collisions. This concept car is built with an aluminum body panel and displays a 50:50 weight distribution.
SSM appeared in many auto shows for several years after that, hinting at the possibility of a production version, announced by Honda in 1999.

S2000 was introduced in 1999 for the 2000 model year and given the designation of the "AP1" chassis. The 2001 model is largely unchanged; Honda added a digital clock to the radio screen and made a standard wind blocker rear. Honda also added Yellow Spa to the US domestic market. For the 2002 model year, the revised suspension settings and plastic rear window were replaced with a glass unit that incorporated an electric defroster. Other updates include slightly revised tail lights with chrome rings, enhanced radios with separate tweeter, leather gearshift, leather console cover and revised engine control unit. Honda added Suzuka Blue to the US domestic market.
The AP1 was manufactured until 2003 at the Takanezawa Honda plant, in addition to Honda NSX and Honda Insight hybrid.
Type V (Japan - 2000)
The Japanese domestic market received Type V editions beginning in mid 2000. This includes variable gear ratio steering (VGS), steering systems that continuously change the steering ratio based on vehicle speed and steering angle to provide better handling. Honda announced S2000 Type V on July 7, 2000 as the first system of its kind. Lock-to-lock steering ratio reduced to 1.4 rounds (stock 2.4). Honda completes Type V cars with revised damper units, stabilizers, and limited slip increments to "complete VGS". The equipped car comes with a special steering wheel and a VGS badge on the back. Second generation (known as "AP2" and in Europe as "AP1 facelift" - 2004-2009)
The S2000 2004 model underwent several significant changes . Production was transferred to Suzuka. The new model introduces 17-inch wheels (43 cm) and Bridgestone RE-050 tires along with retuned suspension to reduce oversteer. The spring rate and shock absorber damping are altered and the suspension geometry is modified to improve stability by reducing toe-in changes under cornering loads. The subframe also received revisions in the design to achieve high rigidity. In the gearbox, brass setter is replaced with carbon fiber. In addition, cosmetic changes are made to the exterior with new front and rear bumpers, revised headlamp assemblies, new LED tail lights, and oval-tipped exhausts. Despite all the cosmetic improvements, the suspension and most of the drivetrain are included on the S2000 of Japan, Australia and Europe, they maintain the 2.0L F20C engine and remain set as AP1.
For the North American market, updates also include the introduction of larger versions of the F20C (F22C1), this larger engine provides AP2 chassis designation. F22C1, extended stroke engine, increasing its displacement to 2.157Ã, cc (132Ã, Â ° CuÃ,). At the same time, the redline and cutoff of fuel are reduced from 8,800 rpm and 9,000 rpm to 8,000 rpm and 8,200 rpm respectively, which is mandated by longer trips of the piston. Peak torque increased 6% to 220Ã, N? M (160 lbf? Ft) at 6,800 rpm while the power output remains unchanged, 177 kW (237Ã, hp) at a lower 7800 rpm. The 2006 model introduces drives with throttle wire, electronic stability control systems, new wheels, and a new exterior color, Blue Pearl Lagoon. The Japanese domestic market received the Type S edition for the last two years of production (2008-2009). Changes are similar to the CR edition of the U.S. market, sharing weight loss, tailor made bodykits, providing much higher downforce, wheels and bespoke interior. Despite sharing the wheel with the CR edition, the Type S retains the size of the 245/40R-17 rear tires for better handling. Special Type S suspension settings with enhanced geometry are designed to improve handling, more rigid settings but more compromised than CR arrangements to be more suited for driving with daily passion and Japanese touge experience. Type S maintains its soft folding mechanism.
The interior is a special yellow and black alcantara material type scheme. The leather interior of the standard S2000 is available as a free option. In the United Kingdom, the 2009 model is offered in trim roadster and GT. GT displays removable hard-tops and external temperature gauges. On-the-road prices of this trim are respectively Ã, Â £ 27,300 and Ã, Â £ 27,850.
Ultimate Edition and GT 100 Edition (Europe - 2009)
The S2000 Ultimate Edition (continental Europe) and GT Edition 100 (UK) is a limited version of the S2000 that was released to commemorate the end of production. Both include the color of the Grand Prix White body, removable hard top, graphite colored wheels, and red leather interior with red staining for seams on the gaiter gear lever.
The Ultimate Edition was unveiled at the 2009 Geneva Motor Show and went on sale in March 2009. The GT 100 Edition is a limited run of 100 units released for the UK market. In addition to the Ultimate Edition specs, it features a black S2000 badge and a numbered plaque on the kick-plate showing the vehicles in the series.

Sales and production
After several years of steady production, roadster sales began to decline dramatically starting in 2006, and the trend accelerated during the 2008 auto industry crisis. In 2008, only 2,538 units were sold in the US - down 74% from the peak sales of 2002. In November That year, for the first time since its launch, only 90 new S2000s are sold nationwide for one calendar month.
S2000 production ceased in June 2009 and plans for successors were abolished after the automotive industry crisis. During the final announcement of 2009 vehicle production, Honda reported that worldwide sales by the end of 2008 reached 110,673 units.
