The Honda CR-V is a compact crossover manufactured by Honda since 1995 and introduced in the North American market in 1997. It uses the Honda Civic platform with an SUV body design. The CR-V is a mid-range Honda utility vehicle, slotting between the smaller HR-V and the larger Pilot. Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Runabout Vehicle Convenient" while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in an article of British car reviews re-issued by Honda.
Honda started producing CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, England, for markets worldwide, adding to North American manufacturing locations in East Liberty, Ohio, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, at the end of 2007 (ending in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana in February 2017. CR-V is also manufactured in Wuhan (Hubei province) for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda Automobile Company, a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Corporation.

First generation (1997-2001)
The CR-V (Chassis Code RD1-RD3) is the first in-house sports utility vehicle designed by Honda by Hiroyuki Kawase. The CR-V was introduced in Japan at Honda Verno dealership and is considered a luxury vehicle in Japan because the dimensions of the exterior width exceed the Japanese Government's dimensions. For the North American market, it was featured at the 1996 Chicago Auto Show and went on sale in February 1997.
Once introduced, the model has only one trim level, which will later be known as the trim model LX ; it is powered by 2.0 liter L-4 B20B producing 126 hp (94 kW) at 5400 rpm and 133Ã, lb? ft (180Ã, N? m) of torque at 4800 rpm. The outer dimensions for this engine will be identical to the Integra 1.8 L engine, but internally the engine has 84 mm (3.3 inches) holes to add the extra displacement required to generate more torque. The machine utilizes a unique one-piece cylinder sleeve construction from other B-series engines. The chassis is a unibody design with a double wishbone suspension of four wheels. Inside, the rear seats can be folded down, and picnic tables are stored in the back floor area. All models feature plastic cladding that includes front bumper, rear bumper, and fender wells. In most countries, CR-Vs have chrome grille; However, in the United States, the grille is made of the same black plastic as the bumper. EX including anti-lock brakes and 15-inch alloy wheels on top of LX trim. The drivetrain option is a front-wheel drive or Honda Real Time AWD.
1999-2001 update
The engine is converted to a 2.0 B LZZZ engine, producing 147 hp (110 kW) at 6200 rpm and 133 lb ft ft (180 Ã N) at 4500 rpm. This performance improvement for the vehicle is 3,200 pounds (1,500 kg). Fuel economy of 23 mpg -US (10Ã, L/100Ã, km; 28 mpg -imp ) city/28 mpg -US ( And the price is not affected by the increase in power, which is the result of higher compression ratios (9.6: 1, compared with B8B 8.8: 1), new intake manifold, and slightly higher elevation on the intake valve.
Security
The 1997-2001 model tested by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) is an LX model with standard drivers and passenger airbags. Although the structure of the car received an acceptable rating, the overall car received a marginal rating because the dummy's left leg would be broken. In addition to this lower body injury, dummy heads remove airbags that may cause mild concussions. It was well protected.
Models equipped with automatic transmissions now have an overdrive cancel button that allows the driver to lock the transmission in the first three gears to provide power to pass through and climb the value. The fabric pattern on the seat is also redesigned, and head restrictions get an acceptable rating from IIHS for whipping protection.
The CR-V models of Europe, Australia and Asia 1999 display more drastic changes. Exterior changes include a new front bumper, smoother rear bumper, and smaller plastic radio antenna on the back of the roof. "Nighthawk Black" is added to the list of paint options, while "Passion Orange" disappears. New dark blue pearls and red pearl shades replace the metallic red and blue colors. The European model received an enlarged Honda emblem on the front grille, and a new metallic yellow paint in a particular market.
In 2000, the Special Edition model was introduced in North America. The SE features bumpers and colored body-side moldings, taut body-colored tire covers, leather upholstery, CD/audio deck tapes, rear privacy glass, Navtech navigation system, and chrome grille accents. Until 2001, the CR-V sold more than any other vehicle in its class. The North American model also received new exterior colors including Naples Gold Metallic and Taffeta White. Electron Blue was introduced in 2000 to replace the Submarine Blue Pearl, while Satin Silver Metallic replaced Sebring Silver Metallic in 2001. However, that year, Ford Escape and its imitation Mazda Tribute sales surpassed the CR-V.
Australia's higher specification model is called "Sport". It was added during the first facelift and included a body-colored bumper, mirror, door handle, and a rear wheel-back cover. It also includes alloy wheels, roof rails, and a large glass sunroof. CR-V became the country's best-selling SUV in 2000, beating Toyota Landcruiser for the first time. Second generation (2002-2006) Second generation (2002-2006) >
The larger and heavier second generation CR-V (Chassis Code RD4-RD8) is a full redesign, based on the seventh generation Civic, and powered by a K24A1 engine. The North American version of the new engine produces 160 hp (120 kW) and 162 lb ft (220 N) of torque. As per the new SAE rules, the same engine is now rated at 156 hp (116 kW) and 160 pounds (220 N). The new CR-V retains the fuel economy of the previous model due to the i-VTEC system. The new chassis has improved torsional and bending rigidity, the suspension includes a MacPherson struts front link control and double back-reactive wishbone links; the compact rear suspension increases the cargo space to 72Ã,Ã cuÃ, ft (2.000Ã, l). The second-generation CR-V was the Small Small SUV and Car Small Business SUV for 2002 and 2003. The second generation CR-V in countries outside North America is again offered in "low specifications" and " high specification "variant, with the latter featuring body colored bumpers and fittings. It also now does not require a glass holder to be opened before the swing doors. The changes between the 2002, 2003 and 2004 models are minor, involving the loading of the bin compartment center and the addition of a front passenger door power lock in the last two years respectively.
It was reported that in late 2003, Honda took legal action against Shuanghuan China which accused its Laibao SRV of imitating CR-V exterior design. Another producer from China made a copy called Tianqi Meiya TM6480A.
Facelift
In 2005, CR-V received a mid-cycle refresh. The new 16-inch wheels replaced the previous 15-inch version. Changes include new rear lights and headlamps with clear indicators and two separate H1 lamps for low beams and high beams, previous settings using H4 single bulb for low and high beams. The back light now uses a crystal clear lens instead of yellow for turn indicators. The grid also changes; it has two horizontal bars instead of one. The design of the front bumper is slightly changed, it now has a round fog lamp compared to the previous rectangular fog lights and next to the lower grill there are two horizontal bars instead of one. The rear bumper reflector is longer and narrower.
On the inside of the car, the EX trim receives an enhancement that includes an audio control mounted on the steering wheel and an external temperature monitor. Stereo system also prepared XM Satellite Radio (US but not Canada). All CR-V models have also revised the rear seat headrests, which have been redesigned to reduce rear-view plugs.
Mechanically, the 2005 model also changed. Big changes include a drive-by-wire throttle for all CR-Vs. The all-wheel drive system is enhanced; it has been set to enable faster in low traction situations. The US market model is equipped with a five-speed automatic, compared to the previous four automatic speeds.
In the United States and Canada, the entire 2005 CR-V and then have anti-lock brakes, electronic brake power distribution, traction control and Vehicle Assist Stability, side-mounted front airbags, and side-curtain airbags with rollover sensors for all residents.
In Australia, the MY05 facelift went on sale in late 2004. The basic model is made only with double airbags and ABS as standard equipment, while Sport comes with side airbags for the first time. Curtain airbags are not available on any model, until the next generation.
Following the tradition of adding trim levels over the EX during refreshments such as the first generation CR-V, Honda added a trim level of SE to CR-V 2005. The CR-V SE features painted bumper, body side molding and cover tire hard sharp colored body. For a more luxurious experience, Honda added leather interiors, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and side mirrors and front seats.
