The 1999 NBA Playoffs were the postseason tournaments of the 1998-99 National Basketball Association season. The tournament closes with the Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs defeating the Eastern Conference champions New York Knicks 4 matches to 1st. Tim Duncan is named NBA Finals MVP.
The 1999 playoff is memorable because the # 8 (Knicks) win reached the Final for the only time in history, and it happened after 50 seasons of a locked game. It also featured the Philadelphia 76ers' first run and the Milwaukee Bucks' into the playoffs since 1991 (coincidentally they faced each other in the opening round of the year), and it was also the 76ers' first appearance since composing Allen Iverson with a select # 1 overall in 1996. Iverson then led the Sixers to the 2001 NBA Finals. The Bulls, despite the defending champions, missed the playoffs for the first time since 1984 (largely due to his second retirement Michael Jordan and the departure of Scottie Pippen and Dennis Rodman). They also became the first defending champions since the 1969-1970 Boston Celtics to miss the playoffs.
Although the Spurs have the advantage of hosting throughout the playoffs, they play more street games (9) than home games (8), as all their series are won on the road, which includes back-to-back sweeping Lakers and Blazers (Who will meet in West Final next year). They won twelve straight games, and finished 15-2 for a postseason record previously matched by Chicago Bulls 1991 and beaten only by a 15-1 playoff record with the only loss in extra time from the Los Angeles Lakers in 2001, and by 16 -1 playoff record from Golden State Warriors in 2017.
After losing their Eastern Conference Semifinal series to the Knicks, the Atlanta Hawks did not return to the playoffs until 2008.
Game 4 of the Spurs-Lakers series is the last NBA game ever played at the Great Western Forum.
Game 5 of the Knicks-Pacers series is the last NBA game ever played at Market Square Arena.
For the first time since 1991, no series has gone into seven games.
After spending the first thirteen seasons in Sacramento in mediocrity, with no record wins and two playoff appearances in 1986 and 1996, the Kings franchise made the first appearance of eight consecutive playoff matches, which included a trip to the Western Conference Finals of the year 2002.
Game 4 of the Lakers-Rockets series turned out to be a late postseason appearance in Charles Barkley's Hall of Fame career.
