The tenth generation Honda Civic was released in October 2015 worldwide, replacing the ninth generation Honda Civic.

Overview

The Civic is based on an all-new Honda compact global platform.

It utilizes higher grade steel, the unit body is 68 lb (31 kg) lighter than the prior model and the center of gravity has been reduced 0.6 in (15 mm). The sedan's wheelbase is 1.2 in (30 mm) longer with rear disc brakes made standard. To minimize NVH the Civic adds fluid-filled suspension bushings. A dual pinion steering system is introduced along with a thicker and more rigid 1.2 in (30 mm) diameter steering column for improved steering feel, additionally the steering gear ratio is variable, with 2.2 turns lock-to-lock compared to 3.1 turns lock-to-lock from the previous model and a quicker 10.93:1 steering ratio.

The exterior features standard LED DRLs and C-shaped LED taillights. Headlamps with LED low and high beams along with amber LED turn signals are optional.

Vehicle variants

Standard models

Sedan

The production sedan for North American market was unveiled at YouTube Space LA on 16 September 2015. Models include a choice of two engines: a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter I4 engine paired to either a six-speed manual or CVT transmission, or 1.5-liter turbocharged direct injected I4 engine with only a CVT transmission. The sedan's 2.0-liter engine paired with the CVT has an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 31/40/34 mpg (city/highway/combined).

Coupe

The Civic Concept was unveiled during April at the 2015 New York Auto Show.

The production coupe was unveiled at 2015 Los Angeles Auto Show in November, sales began during March 2016.

Hatchback

The Civic Hatchback Prototype vehicle was unveiled in 2016 Geneva Motor Show, the production version was unveiled at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The hatchback is developed jointly by Honda R&D teams in Europe and Japan, and manufactured in its Swindon, England plant. US models went on sale in September 2016 (2017 MY).

Early US models only come with a 1.5-liter turbo engine of either 174 or 180 hp (130 or 134 kW; 176 or 182 PS) with CVT. European models are set to go on sale in Spring 2017. Early models included choice of 3 engines (1.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbo, 1.6-liter diesel all with CVT).

Performance models

Si

The Civic Si Prototype was unveiled during November 2016 at the Los Angeles International Auto Show. It is powered by a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine exclusively with 6 speed manual. Performance options include active shock absorbers, active steering and a limited-slip differential.

Type R

The Type R Prototype was unveiled along with the production hatchback at the 2016 Paris Motor Show. The prototype shared the same overall body as the regular hatchback but with a more performance-focused appearance. The Honda Civic Type R Prototype included unique brushed aluminium-effect paintwork, 20-inch piano black alloy wheels, a carbon fibre front splitter and a large rear spoiler. In production form, the new Honda Civic Type R will use the same 2.0 litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine as the previous version exclusively with 6 speed manual. It is also the first time the Type R will be sold in the North American market.

Regions

Production of the sedan began at Honda of Canada Manufacturing on October 20, 2015 and shortly later at Honda Manufacturing of Indiana began on October 27. Civic Hatchbacks are produced at Honda of the UK Manufacturing (HUM).

The 2.0-liter and 1.5-liter turbo engines used in North American Civic are manufactured in Anna, Ohio. The vehicles' automatic transmissions (CVTs) are sourced from Honda plants in Russells Point, Ohio and Celaya, Mexico.

The Civic is revived for the Japanese Domestic Market in 2017, after a seven-year hiatus that entirely skipped the ninth generation. The tenth generation Civic line was unveiled in Japan on July 27, 2017 and sales began there on September 29, 2017.

Thailand

Honda Automobile Thailand debuted the Civic on 12 March 2016. Choices include E, El, Turbo and Turbo RS, redeveloped 1.8-litre naturally aspirated with i-VTEC technology that produces 141 hp (105 kW) and 174 N?m (128 lb?ft) and the new 1.5-litre VTEC TURBO produces 173 hp (129 kW) and 220 N?m (160 lb?ft), achieved with the employment of turbocharger, and unlike North American models, it is equipped with VTEC. Both engines are mated to a continuously variable transmission.

Brunei Darussalam

Happy Motoring (Honda's sole distributor) unveiled the tenth generation Civic on 26 August 2016. A reworked 1.6 i-VTEC (125ps) and a 1.5 VTEC TURBO (173ps) coupled to a 7 simulated gears CVT with paddle shift are offered. As before, the Civic is offered with premium pricing of $26,000 to $35,000 (USD) and they continue to be imported from Thailand for to allow competitive pricing structures.

Indonesia

The tenth generation Civic sedan was launched on 7 April 2016 at the 2016 Indonesia International Motor Show in Jakarta by Honda Prospect Motor. It uses the newer 1.5-liter L15B7 I4 i-VTEC engine with turbo. The hatchback was also launched on 9 June 2017, and uses the same engine as the sedan, and is available in S and E types with CVT transmission only.

Pakistan

Honda Atlas revealed the model for Pakistan on 22 July 2016. At the time of launch, three variants were offered, the: i-VTEC, i-VTEC Oriel and VTEC Turbo. i-VTEC and i-VTEC Oriel trims come with 1.8-liter engine while the VTEC Turbo has a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine; both tied to a CVT. Due to technical problems and tremendous engine knocking the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine was discontinued by Honda Atlas in April 2017 and is expected to be relaunched soon.

Australia

After the launch of the current generation Civic sedan in Australia, sales of the Honda model shot up almost 50 percent. It has about 23 percent of private market share, matching performance of the best sellers in the segment. Honda does not compete in fleet or rental market. The biggest seller is the RS contributing to over 25 per cent of sales, while 60 per cent of sales is made up of the turbocharged models in the line-up. The hatchback was launched in May 2017.

Malaysia

On the 9th of June 2016, the Civic was launched in Malaysia with only the sedan bodystyle which was offered with three variants: 1.8L, 1.5L Turbo and 1.5L Turbo Premium.
